The 993-generation Porsche 911 Turbo holds exalted status among
Porsche enthusiasts and fans of 1990s sports cars in equal measure,
representing the pinnacle of the air-cooled, flat-six 911 design.
Offered for only 1996 and 1997 in the United States, the 911 Turbo
delivered 400 horsepower via sequential twin turbos and all-wheel
drive, achieving the run to 60 miles per hour in 4.4 seconds and a
quarter-mile dash in 12.7 seconds. Combining blistering performance
with exceptional comfort and drivability, Car and Driver praised
the 911 Turbo as "the planet's most eminently practical
supercar."
This 1996 911 Turbo's Porsche-issued Certificate of Authenticity
(CoA) reveals its original specification of Guards Red over a
Cashmere and Black Full Leather interior. While Guards Red may have
been a Porsche staple exterior finish during the 1970s and 80s, it
became rare by the 1990s and is relatively uncommon to see on the
final air-cooled 911 Turbos. It was further optioned with "Racing
Style" hard back Sport Seats, Digital Sound Package, CD box leather
for eight CDs, door sill guards with Turbo script in stainless
steel, and a Leather headliner, A-pillars, and Sun visors.
The original service book reveals it was sold through Scholfield
Auto Plaza of Wichita, Kansas, and was delivered to Tom Hanna in
July 1995 likely making it one of the first 993-generation 911
Turbos in the United States. Hanna's name may not be familiar to
those devoted to the Porsche marque, but the Kansan is an
International Drag Racing Hall of Famer who became famous crafting
dragsters' exquisite aluminum and magnesium bodies as well as
racing them himself. Hanna also had a penchant for Porsches and,
according to the clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, he kept the
car until 2000 with approximately 1,800 miles.
The highly collectible Turbo then passed through a series of owners
in California, Washington state, and Florida. In 2019, the Guards
Red Turbo joined the renowned automotive collection of Bill and
Linda Feldhorn in Southern California where it has been serviced
and maintained. The Porsche CoA reveals the car retains its
original engine and transmission and recent paint meter readings
show that the car continues to wear its original factory-applied
paint. Furthermore, the twin-turbo is furnished with its books,
tools, jack, air pump, and spare.
Offered at the time of cataloging with only 10,975 miles and
intriguing early ownership by International Drag Racing Hall of
Famer Tom Hanna, this superbly preserved and matching numbers 911
Turbo presents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most
revered air-cooled 911s. Perhaps striking the finest balance
between vintage and modern, performance and refinement, this
final-generation air-cooled Turbo remains one of Porsche's most
complete and compelling road cars-one that truly needs no grandiose
rhetoric, simply a special thing, exactly as Porsche intended.
