For Sale: 1965 Ford Mustang in Sonoma, California

Vehicle Description

1965 Ford Mustang Convertible
289, Automatic California Car

Very special 1965 Ford Mustang convertible for sale. This San Jose built example was produced April 21, 1965. It left the factory finished in Honey Gold with a black interior and equipped with a 289ci V8 paired with a C4 automatic transmission, 2.80:1 Standard Differential along with power steering and power brakes. A comprehensive restoration completed in 2003 included new Wimbledon White paint, interior refresh and engine rebuild, and has traveled only approximately 4,000 miles since completion. It is accompanied by extensive documentation including years of California registrations, a 1971 purchase order believed to be from the second owner, and restoration records dating back to 2003. A collection of restoration photos documents the process, including drivetrain removal, repaint work, and engine rebuild. The car is offered with a clear California title.

The rebuilt 289ci V8 starts easily, runs smoothly, and idles nicely with plenty of power on tap. The C4 automatic transmission shifts cleanly through all gears. The braking system and suspension feel tight and well-sorted, making this a very enjoyable and confident-driving classic Mustang.

The car was refinished in Wimbledon White during the 2003 restoration and continues to present very nicely today. The driver-quality paint shows well and is complemented by clean trim, lenses, and glass. It sits on Rally wheels that suit the car nicely. The manual convertible top was replaced during the restoration and remains in good condition. The car has been stored indoors since completion, kept at the owner?s weekend home and driven very sparingly, helping it retain a fresh, well-kept appearance.

The interior was removed during the 2003 restoration and appears to have been replaced at that time. It presents very nicely with clean seating surfaces, door panels, and trim throughout. The gauges are clear and in working order, and a new dash pad was installed during the restoration. Overall, the cabin is comfortable, well-finished, and well-suited for longer drives.

This is a great opportunity to own a rust-free California Mustang that has been nicely restored and is ready to drive and enjoy. With a short list of long-term owners and an extensive cache of documentation, it offers the kind of history, condition, and usability that make these cars so desirable today. Cars with this level of documentation and provenance are becoming increasingly difficult to find, making this a particularly compelling example.
