The 2014 Corvette was not just a new car. It was the return of a
legend. This was the first year of the seventh generation C7, and
with it came the revival of the Stingray name, which had not
appeared on a Corvette since 1976. Chevrolet built it on an all-new
aluminum frame that was 57 percent stiffer and 99 pounds lighter
than what it replaced, designed the interior from the ground up
with real carbon fiber and hand-wrapped leather, and gave it the
most powerful standard Corvette engine ever built at the time. This
one is finished in Laguna Blue with a grey power convertible top
and grey leather inside, a color combination that is sharp, clean,
and turns heads everywhere it goes.
Under the hood is the 6.2 liter LT1 V8 sending power to the rear
wheels through a seven speed manual transmission with Active Rev
Matching, which automatically blips the throttle on downshifts so
every gear change feels perfect. The C7 could hit 60 miles per hour
in under four seconds and pull more than one full g of cornering
grip. Automobile Magazine named it Car of the Year for 2014, and it
is easy to understand why the moment you get behind the wheel.
Inside, the grey leather cockpit is well equipped with heated and
cooled seats, memory seats, power seats, a heads-up display, dual
climate control, a Bose sound system, universal garage door opener,
and power windows, mirrors, and locks. The fighter jet-inspired
layout puts everything exactly where it should be and makes the car
feel like it was built around the driver, because it was.
This car was ordered with the National Corvette Museum Delivery
program, which means the original owner drove to Bowling Green,
Kentucky, had their new Corvette displayed on the museum floor,
received a VIP tour of both the museum and the assembly plant just
across the street, and took delivery of the car there instead of at
a dealership. It is a once in a lifetime experience that only a
Corvette owner can have, and this car carries that story with
it.
A first year C7, in a standout color, with the seven speed manual,
and a delivery story worth telling.
