Vehicle Description

Here is a very special vehicle for all of you avid Ford Mustang collectors and SVT fanatics!

‘Red Hills Rods & Classics’ is proud to offer you this super-rare and absolutely beautiful 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R. The 2000 Mustang Cobra R is a limited-edition full bred race car in street trim, and at the time it was unveiled it represented the wildest Mustang ever produced. This car featured a huge motor, massive brakes, hunkered down suspension, Recaro bucket-seats, and many aerodynamic aids needed to keep this beast stable at 170 mph. The Cobra R is a true factory-based street legal race car that stands as one of the most iconic performance cars of its time, designed for driving enthusiasts seeking raw power and precision. This limited-edition model (only 300 units built) delivers a track-ready experience paired w/ everyday usability. One of the key highlights of the 2000 Cobra R is its aggressive weight-saving design. Ford stripped down all unnecessary features, such as the rear seats & air conditioning, to make this car light and agile. The result is a vehicle that weighs just 3,300 pounds, optimizing the power-to-weight ratio for superior performance. Its bold exterior design includes a unique chin-spoiler designed to keep the car stable at high speeds, and ensure a good supply of air under hood. The hood features a power bulge needed to clear the massive 5.4 Liter motor and custom intake. The hood has stamped ‘gills’ that can be cut out to allow the escape of heat and air pressure from the under hood. Custom side-skirts follow the body line to the rear of the car where you find a firmly planted tall & wide rear deck spoiler, which was needed to keep the car stable at high speed.

The engine behind the 2000 Cobra R is a hi-revving naturally-aspirated 385 hp 5.4 Liter twin cam V-8, created under the leadership of John Coletti, who thoroughly revamped the motor to suit their needs. Key changes included a custom cam profile, unique intake manifold, which ensured a smooth and steady supply of air, ported exhaust ports, and big tubular headers. Backing up the motor is a Borla X-pipe along w/ side exhaust dumps in front of each rear wheel. Engineered for high performance, the Cobra R’s powertrain includes a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission, ensuring optimal gear shifting for a thrilling driving experience. The performance is further enhanced by the heavy-duty aluminum drive shaft, while the McPherson strut suspension system offers exceptional handling on both the road and the racetrack. The inclusion of Brembo brakes ensures stopping power is on par w/ its acceleration, giving drivers the confidence to push the limits. Handling is greatly sharpened thanks to a fully independent rear suspension and upgraded shock absorbers. Suspension changes, designed by Ford Racing, were significant on the Cobra R and required specially designed Eibach road race lowering springs. Front/rear struts & shock absorbers were custom applications and were mated w/ huge sway bars and large 13” Brembo brakes. The interior of the Cobra R is race-oriented w/ no sound deadening, no sound system, no back seat, and a set of specially designed Recaro bucket-seats. The dashboard is clean & functional, w/ a simple gauge cluster that prioritizes the essentials: a tachometer, speedometer, and oil pressure readings. The bold, large red-lettered ‘Cobra R’ badging stands out as a reminder of the vehicle’s racing roots. The shift knob, finished in polished aluminum, is another detail that enhances the car’s connection to racing. This Mustang Cobra R was designed for enthusiasts who wanted a no-compromise, limited-production muscle car that could dominate the track straight out of the showroom. Its track-oriented features and aggressive performance make it a very rare and highly collectible model today.

The beautiful example that you are looking at right now is #278 of 300 built, and was originally sold @ Don Kott Ford in Carson, California. She now sits on our showroom floor here in St. George, Utah in excellent collector-grade condition. It has obviously been extremely well cared for since new, and has only 7,900 original miles. Every single piece of original documentation has been kept from day one, which of course is very important w/ collector cars. The original Performance Red paint (code ES), is in wonderful condition throughout, w/ minimal signs of aging whatsoever. All of the body panels are laser straight, and the original front fascia was removed by the owner to keep it from being damaged, as these spoilers are very low to the ground and can be scraped up quite easily. It is now safely wrapped up in excellent condition, and will of course go to the new owner. All of the emblems are bright & shiny, and the original tinted glass is perfect. The original window sticker, as well as the original Bumper Quality Label are still affixed to the windows. The original tires were swapped out due to age, and it now rolls on Michelin Pilot Sport cup tires, which are the same size as the original BF Goodrich tires (265/40/ZR18). Besides the new tires, nothing has been altered on this car, unlike many other examples that were setup by race car drivers w/ roll cages, and aftermarket speed equipment. The 300 units of the 2000 Cobra R were not exclusively sold only to racers, though Ford initially intended them for competition use only, and required buyers to hold a valid racing license or proof of road racing experience. When you open the driver’s door, you will find the bone-stock factory interior w/ Sparco 4-point racing harnesses on both front seats (original seat belts included). Everything else is factory stock and in excellent condition throughout. All of the gauges, lights, blinkers, etc., are in perfect working order. These interiors were no-nonsense and made for one thing, ‘Going Fast’!

Nestled inside the beautifully detailed engine bay resides the original 5.4 Liter twin cam V-8 motor in all its glory! Everything under the hood is just as it left the factory and in ‘mint’ condition from front to back. She fires up instantly w/ the flick of the wrist, and she runs & drives beautifully in every way. The motor has loads of power & torque and the Borla exhaust sounds absolutely amazing! As I stated previously, this Cobra R comes w/ a plethora of original documentation, including the Certificate of Authenticity, brochures, booklets, numbered metal plaque, etc., along w/ the original window sticker which is still on the window (see photos). Of course, it also comes w/ a free & clear Utah title.

This is a collector car in every sense of the word, and will only appreciate in value in the coming years. Being one of only 300 produced, the 2000 Mustang SVT Cobra R’s are certainly one of the most desirable & collectible Ford Mustangs of all time.
