Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1997 Land Rover Defender
90, a backdated build featuring all the character of a Land Rover
Series IIa but with the modern chassis and driveline of a Defender.
Finished in an attractive shade of blue-grey with a brown canvas
hood, this D90 has been fitted with two-piece series doors,
galvanized trim and hood sticks, a series-style drop-down tailgate,
a new front windscreen with fold-down hinges, a heritage front
grille, a bonnet-mounted spare, a set of five color-matched Wolf
steel wheels wearing new all-terrain tires, and new galvanized
front and rear bumpers.
It's an inside joke that driving an old Land Rover Series is like
driving a tractor with a license plate... No power steering, manual
drum brakes, leaf springs, a 2.25 liter petrol engine that only
makes 70 horsepower, a four-speed gearbox, and a top speed of 55
mph... Charming, yes. Driveable on modern highways, no. This truck
captures the vintage look of a Land Rover Series but is eminently
more suitable for today's roads (and traffic) thanks to power
steering, power disk brakes, coil springs, and a 300TDi turbo
Diesel mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
An Englishman with homes in Europe and in the US commissioned this
build two years ago in the UK and subsequently imported it for his
personal use stateside; it is sold on a clean and clear Georgia
title. Paint and body remain in excellent condition; as does the
canvas hood. Chassis, frame, cross members and bulkhead are all
solid with no known rust issues. Interior is fitted with
series-style front bench and rear jump seats, upholstered in a
tasteful matching brown. A wood-trimmed wheel is a nice finishing
touch. All gauges and lights are working. The side curtains (upper
portion of the doors) are removable, as are the hood sticks for a
streamlined look (especially with the windscreen folded down - see
photos).
This D90 runs and drives great, and the retro look sets it apart
from other grey market imports. For more information about this
