1979 Lincoln Mark V Bill Blass Edition PRE-PRODUCTION CAR. 400 V-8 & C6 transmission. Estate of second owner, who bought car in 1989 at (then) mileage 85,000. Runs & drives very well. Complete maintenance records going back to 85,000 miles. Never in collision. No repainting ever done. Car has spent nearly all its' years in Arizona (believed bought new in California), virtually no rust. New distributor, new oil pump, new timing chain. Both heads replaced several years ago; never any other major engine/transmission work performed.
Car had been cosmetically abused prior to 1989 and has been the subject of many upgrades, such as: new vinyl inserts in chrome strips, new tape pinstriping on right side and trunk simulated spare tire, new grille, new Mark V radiator shroud emblem, new left front turn signal lens, new interior rear ledge, new hood ornament, partial new dashboard face, new instrument panel cluster, new red tape striping around taillights, and more.
Car yet needs: New clearcoat (acrylic lacquer) on left side exterior midnight blue, new carriage top (thinning in two spots), and new leather on all three seats.
After acquisition, second owner found that date of manufacture stamped on driver's door ("July 1978") does not conform to 1979 regular model year. An extra plate riveted to firewall in engine compartment was found bearing "Los Angeles Show Unit 010". A call to Lincoln in Michigan brought statement that car was a pre-production car made to test tooling prior to start of 1979 model year. It is THEORIZED that this car may have been the first 1979 model equipped with the Bill Blass Edition package.
A nice running, comfortable, good straight example of a Mark V.
