After three decades of incremental improvements and refinement of
the 911's rear-engine, air-cooled formula, Porsche introduced a
fundamental change to the 911's DNA with the launch of the
water-cooled 996-generation in late 1997. A move that has divided
Porsche devotees ever since, the previous 993-generation 911 was
thereby cemented as the last of the air-cooled 911s, and as a
result, represents some of the most coveted modern Porsches ever
produced.
Finished in Stuttgart Zuffenhausen in October 1997, this Carrera 2
Cabriolet was selected in Arctic Silver Metallic over an optional
Classic Grey Supple leather interior. Factory-fitted options
include a limited slip differential, Power Seat Package, Motor
Sound Package, and HI-FI Sound Package with Speakers. The original
window sticker additionally lists two selections from the Exclusive
Department that include Classic Grey Floor Mats and Stainless Steel
Door Sills with Carrera script. The "row-your-own" six-speed manual
remains the enthusiast's choice, offering a heightened level of
engagement and a more rewarding driving experience-one that lingers
even after the characteristic cooling pings, so cherished by
air-cooled aficionados, gently subside.
Delivered to Walter's Porsche of Riverside, California (now Porsche
Riverside), the clean CARFAX reveals sunny Southern California
ownership from new with regular servicing at Porsche South Bay
between 2003 and 2017 by the long-term second owner. By 2017, the
six-speed Cabriolet had only accumulated 19,342 miles, an
impressively low total reflecting light, considered use, maintained
by subsequent caretakers. At the time of consignment, the 911 shows
just 26,460 original miles, is equipped with upgraded two-piece
18-inch SportClassic II wheels, and comes with its original window
sticker, books, tools, and air compressor. Furthermore, it features
a recent major service performed by the specialists at TRE in
August 2025, which included replacement of the air, fuel, oil, and
pollen filters, transmission lube, oil change with Porsche
lubricants, replacement of all three belts, a brake fluid flush and
system bleed, new distributor cap and rotor, new front struts and a
convertible top service. Previous maintenance documentation is
neatly organized in the accompanying records book.
While debates over generations and configurations will always
persist, there is little argument that a 993-generation Cabriolet,
with a six-speed in hand and a flat-six singing behind you, with
the top down on a sunny day, delivers one of the most rewarding and
immersive experiences in all of motoring.
