Searching for a classic, open-air '70s muscle car that's in great
form, with its native curb appeal thoroughly intact and offering a
running condition that makes it road-ready as soon as you bring it
home? Then you'll want to check out this 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass
Supreme Convertible. Dressed in a shade that very closely mirrors
the Matador Red that was among the color choices when it first
arrived on the scene, this droptop checks all those boxes. It also
features precise body alignment from front to back and, should you
find yourself behind the wheel as the skies darken, its white
canvas convertible top powers into place without issue and retains
its nice, tight stitching and clear rear window.
The white vinyl interior remains in its stock configuration and
really creates an appealing contrast to the adjacent darker
components, which have retained their original deep pigmentation.
Both the front buckets and the rear bench seat have a lot of miles
left in them and the dash is accented by a clean, unwarped pad
across the top, with a set of easily readable gauges inside the
instrument cluster that are accompanied by aftermarket displays
just below. All the components for the factory air conditioning
system are still in place and ready to function on modern, R134a
refrigerant, but the system will need a little attention to get
back online.
Beneath the hood, a factory-correct 350-cubic-inch V8 stands by in
a nicely maintained compartment, surrounded by fresh hoses and
belts, and ready to be called into action. It's outfitted with a
Holley four-barrel carburetor perched on an Edelbrock aluminum
intake manifold to enhance its output, while a pair of Flowmaster
mufflers are positioned in back to add a deep, pleasing exhaust
note with a tap on the accelerator. The engine pairs with a 3-speed
automatic TH350 transmission that's been the go-to choice for
countless classic cars over the years. Power steering makes this
vintage Olds a pleasure to drive, while power brakes that include
discs in front bring its set of color-matched 14" wheels wrapped
with Cooper Cobra radials showing plenty of tread to prompt
reliable stops.
