In the vast history of the autoverse, it is hard to beat a Tri-Five
Chevy for fanfare and collectability. One look at this 1955
Chevrolet Bel Air 2 Door Hardtop, fully repainted in its factory
Harvest Gold and India Ivory two-tone exterior, and it's easy to
see why. The straight lines, lowered stance, polished chrome, and
two-door coupe configuration give this '55 a classically aggressive
stance from any angle.
Inside, we find a fun, well-done green-and-beige vinyl-and-cloth
interior. A split-bench seat sits ahead of a power-assisted
three-spoke wheel, positioned in front of a big 110-mph
speedometer. A trio of under-dash auxiliary gauges look right at
home, while a RetroSound AM/FM/AUX head unit handles soundtrack
duty.
Under the hood sits a version of Chevy's venerable 350 cubic-inch
V-8 engine. This particular motor is topped with a single
four-barrel Edelbrock carburetor and matching Edelbrock EPS intake
manifold while it exhales spent gases through a true dual exhaust
capped off with a set of sweet-sounding FlowMaster mufflers. Power
is routed through a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission before
heading to the ten-bolt rear end and onto a set of big 20-inch
Rocket Racing wheels shod in 255/45ZR-20 rubber, while staggered
08-inch wheels shod in narrower 235/45ZR-18 set handles steering
duties up front.
