This 1982 DeLorean DMC-12, VIN SCEDT26T2CD010859, is a
well-preserved example of John DeLorean's stainless steel icon. The
odometer currently shows just 8,613 miles. While we cannot formally
verify the mileage as original, both the odometer and trip meter
function exactly as they should, and given the nature of these
cars, it is difficult to imagine one ever seeing 100,000+ miles.
This car was recently rescued from long-term garage storage and has
since received over $4,000 in mechanical recommissioning to address
the effects of sitting. Featuring the desirable 5-speed manual
gearbox, this is a solid, honest survivor that combines a great
look with essential fuel system upgrades.
This DMC-12 is well-documented and includes a collection of
original materials that often go missing over the decades. Included
with the sale is the original window sticker detailing a suggested
retail price of $29,825 with delivery to Consolidated International
in Columbus, OH. You will also receive the original owner's manual,
sales brochure, and John DeLorean's book, "On a Clear Day You Can
See General Motors." The original toolkit and spare tire are both
present, and the car comes with two keys and a clear title.
To bring the car back to road-ready status after years of storage,
we performed extensive fuel system service. This work included a
new style fuel pump conversion, which is a critical upgrade for
modern reliability, as well as a professional fuel distributor
rebuild and tune to ensure the Bosch K-Jetronic system operates
correctly. We also replaced all the gas struts for the gull-wing
doors, hood, and rear deck louvers, ensuring they all stay open
firmly and safely.
The signature brushed stainless steel body remains in fantastic
condition. The panels exhibit excellent fitment with no signs of
crash repair or structural compromise. We note only minor dings and
light scratches consistent with long-term garage storage. The
original alloy wheels are in great shape, and the glass is perfect
and clear throughout. The bumpers are well-preserved, though we
note a small, functional crack in the passenger-side fender marker
light. While the tires show good tread, they are older and should
be replaced for any regular driving.
The interior is clean, tidy, and free of any unwanted odors. The
AM/FM radio, interior controls, fans, and rear defrost all work as
intended. As is typical for a car coming out of long-term storage,
there are a few minor items to tend to: the passenger window is
currently inoperative and the driver's window only functions
partially. Additionally, the door headliner pieces are sagging and
require recovering, and the original carpets show some age-related
deterioration. We also note the steering column bushing is dry and
should be replaced to restore a crisp steering feel.
Equipped with the 5-speed manual, this DeLorean provides a much
more engaging driving experience than the automatic variants. The
gearbox feels good and shifts through the gears smoothly. While it
would benefit from a final air/fuel mixture adjustment to be
perfect, it runs and drives quite well. The car tracks straight and
stops confidently, though we have not performed a full service on
the braking system.
With a 5-speed manual, a high level of original documentation, and
the expensive fuel system work already completed, this DMC-12 is a
fantastic entry point into DeLorean ownership. It is a very honest
car that reflects its low indicated mileage in its overall
tightness and presentation. We encourage all prospective buyers to
watch our detailed video and view the high-resolution photos on our
website to see the state of this stainless-steel survivor.
