Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this 1965 Ford F250
Camper Special. This vintage Ford truck is a fine example of what
we'd call a running and driving "project". You can hop inside, turn
the key, and it fires right up. It rolls down the road just fine,
but before putting it on the road for regular use we would
recommend getting the brakes serviced (we believe it may have a
leaking wheel cylinder). The truck is painted maroon, but it is low
driver quality paint - with patina, wear, chips, scrapes, dings,
and evidence of some body work. Up front theres a bright eggcrate
grille flanked by round single headlights. Turn signals sit just
above, with FORD lettering in between. Both the front and rear
bumpers have been painted white at some point. Moving around to the
side you'll find "FORD F250 Camper Special" fender badges and
"Custom Cab" badging on the doors. Both doors are also outfitted
with extended side mirrors to aid when towing. This truck sits
proudly atop a newer set of Pacer polished 8-slot wheels with
Advanta SV T-02 tires in front and Dextero DHT2 tires in the rear.
Around back is a full-size bed with a large wood panel bolted to
the floor to cover a rust hole in the metal floor below. In the bed
is the original numbers-matching 352 Ford V-8, a flywheel, the
original wheels, and the tailgate. According to the most recent
owner, the 352 had started smoking and they took it to a shop to
get it rebuilt, but they wound up buying a rebuilt 390 Ford V-8 and
having it installed for the same price (no receipt for this).
Looking under the truck, there's a tow-hitch receiver, newer
exhaust with mufflers from the headers back, four wheel drum
brakes, and independent "Twin I-Beam" front suspension with coil
springs. While underneath we noted that holes in the cab floor have
been patched with fiberglass.
Lift the hood to find the aforementioned 390ci V-8 sitting at the
center. It's topped with blue "Powered by Ford" valve covers, a
Holley 4-barrel carburetor, and a chrome air cleaner. Steering is
manual and so are the drum brakes with single master cylinder. The
big V-8 is mated up to a 4-speed manual transmission that sends
power to the rear wheels. Exhaust flows through an older set of
headers, then a newer exhaust with dual mufflers.
Open the driver's door to find a very original and simplistic red
and white interior. The small white door panels and their armrests
are definitely showing their age, but the door handles and window
cranks work fine. The bench seat has been covered with a
multi-color saddle blanket cover that looks nice. Underfoot is a
very old rubber matting and overhead is a perforated white
headliner in good condition and a set of visors. Rising up from the
center of the floor is a long shifter for the 4-speed manual
transmission. The doors and dash are painted red, with a white
lower dash providing an accent. Ahead of the driver is a 3-spoke
OEM steering wheel with a broken horn ring (not attached) on a
fixed column. The wheel frames a faux machine-turned gauge bezel
that offers a 100mph speedometer and gauges for alt, fuel (inop.),
temp (inop.), and oil. Below and to the left are knobs for the
lights and working wipers while on the right are a manual choke
(inop.) and a knob for the working fan. There is a manual
under-dash defrost diverter and the kick panels offer fresh air
vents. In the center of the dash is what appears to be the original
AM radio that plays through a dash speaker, and sounds decent.
Ahead of the passenger is a glovebox that contains a Panasonic
8-track player (we did not test this). The odometer reads 38,790
miles, but the title says "exceeds mechanical limits".
If you've always wanted to build your own cool mid-sixties Ford
truck, this F250 offers you an affordable platform to start that
project! Alternatively, you could get the brakes in good order and
drive this truck just as it is with all of it's earned patina. The
choice is yours, but don't wait too long only to find someone else
snatched it up first! Give our friendly staff a call and start your
journey!
