When it comes to the Golden Age of muscle cars, almost no name
engenders more respect than the mighty Chevelle. Fully repainted in
this captivating Marina Blue, this 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454
emanates equal parts style and speed. A straight body, cool-as-ice
hardtop demeanor, and shimmering chrome all combine forces to
create a boulevard bruiser cruiser that is unlike anything else on
the road. With just 2,406 miles on it since undergoing a
two-and-a-half year full frame-off rotisserie restoration, this
revitalized SS is ready to give its next lucky owner miles and
miles of smiles for years to come.
Inside, we find a sea of enchanting black vinyl. A center console
separates a pair of comfy bucket seats, while a three-spoke
wood-rimmed power-assisted steering wheel featuring a Bowtie center
cap sits in front of a subtle Dakota Digital gauge that mimics the
classic horizontal 120-mph speedometer perfectly, but with some
added technology, and the throwback sliding HVAC controls (complete
with air conditioning) remind us how simple driving used to be. An
upgraded AM/FM/AUX head unit offers Bluetooth connectivity as it
handles soundtrack duties in conjunction with a Kicker amp and
speakers, while the cueball-style shifter knob attached to the
floor-mounted stick promises to offer up an engaging ride, whether
it's across town or cross-country.
Under the hood, we find a transplanted 454 cubic-inch V-8 engine
looking right at home with its primer orange block, chrome air
cleaner, and accessories. A single four-barrel Holley carburetor
feeds this beast, while a stock-style exhaust manifold feeds into a
true dual exhaust and exits out of a set of sweet-sounding Pypes
mufflers to give this old school muscle car the sound it deserves.
Power flows from that big block to a tried-and-true Tremec TKO 600
five-speed manual transmission, then to the 12-bolt rear that
transfers those ponies to the pavement via a set of fifteen-inch
Rallye wheels shod in 275/60R-15 BFG Radial T/A tires in back,
while a set of power-assisted 235/60R-15s handles steering duties
up front.
