Even in a crowd of the most well-heeled classics, this 1971 Pontiac
Firebird Formula 455 Super Duty Tribute is bound to pull focus. And
that's for good reason. It was meticulously restored at the hands
of a respected professional, during which time it was taken down to
bare metal and carefully prepped before receiving its current
glossy black paint. Upgraded headlights not only enhance the look
from the front, but provide improved visibility, sequential LED
taillights give it a distinctive appearance from the back and that
shaker scoop you see protruding from its hood is fully functional,
funneling cold, dense air to the robust engine lurking below.
The interior has been completely revitalized while keeping its
factory appearance intact. Its pair of black vinyl-clad sport
bucket seats look virtually new, and they're bracketed by door
panels in matching condition. Farther forward, the dash area is in
top form, with a new dash pad spanning the width of the cabin and
fresh woodgrain paneling surrounding a set of clear, functional
gauges in the instrument cluster. A retro-style AM/FM stereo with
Bluetooth connectivity and hands-free operation offers a wealth of
audio options, and the Vintage Air climate control system on this
elite ride is functioning at full strength, so you can enjoy it in
comfort throughout the year.
Regardless of just how high your expectations are as you climb
inside the cockpit, you'll still likely be impressed by the running
condition of this Pontiac classic. It starts right up, and from the
first tap on the gas pedal, you'll become keenly aware of the power
at your disposal. During the restoration process, the
400-cubic-inch V8 engine was torn down, thoroughly inspected, then
rebuilt using an array of quality components, including a Comp cam,
a new oil pump and timing chain, and new valve seats. The engine is
now fed via a Holley Sniper II electronic fuel system for enhanced
drivability. An added Ride Tech suspension with a 2" drop gives
this classic Pontiac its tastefully aggressive stance, and a
favorably low center of gravity that pays dividends while
cornering. And, with power Wilwood disc brakes at all four corners,
it stops as well as it accelerates.
