The C3 Corvette is one of the most recognizable shapes in American
automotive history, and the 1974 is a particularly significant one.
This was the first year Chevrolet replaced the chrome bumpers front
and rear with smooth body-colored urethane, giving the car a
cleaner, more modern look that has aged incredibly well. It was
also the last year for true dual exhaust and the last Corvette
built without a catalytic converter, which makes it a milestone
year sitting right at the edge of two different eras. Finished in
Corvette Orange with the Stingray badge on the nose, this one stops
people in their tracks.
Under the hood is the 350 cubic inch V8 backed by a three speed
automatic. Even in stock form the 350 was good for 0 to 60 in under
seven seconds, and it tops out well above 120 miles per hour. It
pulls strong, sounds right, and has the kind of character that
modern cars simply cannot replicate.
Inside, the tan leather interior is in very clean shape and the
t-tops are included with their original tan leather covers, which
is a detail a lot of these cars are missing after 50 years. The
plastic covered floor mats show just how well this car has been
looked after. Kenwood speakers round out a cabin that is
comfortable, driver-focused, and easy to spend time in.
The 1974 Stingray was a massive sales success despite a brutal year
for the auto industry overall. While car sales across the country
dropped more than 12 percent due to the gas crisis, Corvette sales
actually went up, climbing from around 30,000 to over 37,500 units.
People simply were not willing to give up on the Corvette, even
when times were tough. That says a lot about what this car means to
people.
Clean, correct, and wearing one of the best color and interior
combinations you can find on a C3.
