INTRODUCTION: Only 90 GT-500 convertibles were made total in 1970,
of which only 9 were red. This is a prime example, restored from
the ground up to factory condition. From a very prominent Mustang
collection.
EXTERIOR: It is in outstanding condition and really showcases this
car's unique Shelby identity. It features a full fiberglass front
end including extended fenders with air scoops, a ram air hood with
functional vents and hood pins, quarter panel scoops, a fiberglass
deck lid, and quarter panel end caps - all in excellent shape. The
hood is an original with the part # on it. The body is laser
straight with no rust or damage, refinished in its original Candy
Apple Red and polished to a glass like shine. It's accented with
gold reflective side stripes and painted black hood stripes. A
front spoiler adds attitude, while the rear features the signature
Shelby sequential taillights. It sits on Shelby five-spoke aluminum
wheels wrapped in reproduction Goodyear Polyglas tires. The power
convertible top has been upgraded to black cloth and includes the
optional glass rear window.
INTERIOR: Restored back to factory condition with all the signature
Shelby touches! It features Shelby logos on the seat belts, horn
button, and door panels, along with a unique Shelby center console
housing oil pressure and alternator gauges. You'll also find a wood
Shelby shifter knob, fog light and interior toggle switches, and of
course, the iconic roll bar. Beyond that, it's a beautifully redone
deluxe interior. The upholstery, molded door panels, dash pad,
visors, carpet and trim are all in excellent condition. Equipped
with a tilt wheel, factory tachometer and clock, an FM stereo, and
speakers in the door panels.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Under the hood is a 428 Ram Air Cobra Jet,
detailed to factory correct specs. It retains its stock manifolds
and components, complete Ram Air system including the snorkel and
heat riser tube, and even the factory smog and pollution equipment.
It's finished with reproduction date coded spark plug wires,
correct 428 finned aluminum valve covers, and proper assembly line
stickers and markings throughout. Features include air
conditioning, power steering, and power brakes. Details are spot on
with the battery hold down, washer fluid bottle, reproduction hoses
and clamps, along with a proper radiator and shroud. Everything is
neatly presented and true to 1970.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Inside the trunk is very well finished. Under
the lid and in the jamb are smooth and glossy. It has reproduction
weatherstrip, well liner, trunk mat, and decal. It's also equipped
with a trunk light and a restored rim with a reproduction tire.
UNDERSIDE: Underneath this car has been completely restored and is
just as impressive as the rest. The competition suspension has been
fully rebuilt and detailed, along with the steering. The brake
system has also been rebuilt, featuring front disc brakes, rear
drums, and a properly hooked-up e-brake assembly. It has a
reproduction factory exhaust system complete with crossover pipe,
resonators, transverse muffler, and the correct aluminum center
outlet tip under the bumper. The fuel system has been replaced,
including the tank with correct stencil markings. All the lines and
hoses still look fresh. Looking up at the motor, it's clean and
finished in proper Ford Blue, upgraded with a high-torque starter.
It has the correct C6 heavy-duty automatic transmission, and a
restored driveshaft leads back to a 9-inch rear with 3.50
Traction-Lok gears. All the metal is clean, smooth, and neatly
painted, with assembly line markings even duplicated for an
authentic appearance.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and reputation. Therefore, we
built a 2 million dollar, 10,000 square ft service center, and
hired a team of technicians to service the essentials on every car
we sell.
CONCLUSION: Few cars carry the legacy, performance pedigree, and
instant recognition of a true Shelby. This one has it all: fully
restored, incredibly detailed, and driven just 3,100 miles since
completion. It's a highly desirable piece of American muscle
history that's ready to be shown, driven, and proudly owned.
