Mercedes built the R107 SL for 18 straight years, from 1971 through
1989, making it one of the longest running models in the company's
history. The 560SL was the top of that lineup, and 1989 was the
final year of production. This one presents beautifully, finished
in grey metallic with both the blue hard top and the blue soft top
included. You have a proper convertible for warm weather and a
solid, quiet cabin for when the seasons change. Two roofs, one
great car.
Under the hood is the 5.6 liter V8 backed by a four speed
automatic. When Mercedes introduced the 560SL in 1986, it cut
nearly four full seconds off the 0 to 60 time compared to the model
it replaced and pushed the top speed up to around 130 miles per
hour. It was the most powerful and most refined version of the SL
Mercedes had built up to that point, and it shows every time you
get behind the wheel.
Inside, the blue leather interior is in clean condition and paired
with real wood trim throughout. The cabin has that unmistakable
1980s Mercedes quality to it, everything built to last and
everything right where it should be. Power windows, a power
passenger mirror, air conditioning and heat are all present and
working. The Decker Grand Prix AM FM stereo rounds out a very well
equipped car.
Only around 8,200 examples were built for the US market in that
final year of production, making this one of the rarer 560SLs you
will come across. Mercedes held the R107 in production longer than
almost any other model in their lineup because they simply could
not improve on it enough to justify replacing it sooner. That is a
pretty remarkable thing to say about any car.
This is a clean, correct example from the final year of one of the
greatest roadsters ever made. These are only going up in value, and
examples in this condition are getting harder to find every
year.
