In terms of automotive freedom, few things can compare to the
feeling you get from rowing through the gears from behind the wheel
of a first-generation drop-top Pony Car. If you've only ever been
able to imagine that feeling, then you're in luck because,
fortunately for you, we have this beautiful 1965 Ford Mustang
Convertible. Fully repainted in its factory Rangoon Red, complete
with its manual white vinyl top, this Mustang is ready to provide
you with miles and miles of open-air exhilaration.
Inside, we find a nicely redone stock-looking black vinyl interior.
This cozy cockpit features a pair of bucket seats, a three-spoke,
power-assisted woodgrain steering wheel with the Mustang logo on
its center cap, and just beyond that, an instrument cluster that
houses a horizontal 120 mph speedometer flanked by fuel and
temperature gauges. An AM stereo handles soundtrack duties, while
simple sliding HVAC controls make it easy to keep your eyes where
they belong: on the fast-approaching open road ahead.
Under the hood, we find a clean engine bay with a naturally
aspirated 289 cubic-inch V-8. With its chrome air cleaner and valve
covers, this motor is fed by a single four-barrel carburetor, while
spent gases are expelled via a dual-to-single exhaust. Power is
routed through a tried-and-true four-speed manual transmission
before being sent to a 2.80-geared rear end, which transmits ponies
to the pavement via a set of 14-inch wheels shod in 205/75R-14
tires.
