There is a very short list of trucks that have a long, dedicated
following of collectors and enthusiasts. One of those off-road
warriors we have for you today is this 1994 Land Rover Defender 90.
Fully repainted in a rough yet regal-looking bright red,
complemented by a black top, and Defender side graphics, this Land
Rover does not appear to be a North American Specification (NAS)
model due to its diesel motor, seating configuration, and roll-up
windows, making this a very unique SUV.
Inside, we find a utilitarian yet comfortable black
leather-and-cloth interior featuring a pair of bucket seats
separated by a center fold-down seat that doubles as a console. A
power-assisted steering wheel sits just ahead of a large 110-mph
speedometer and smaller fuel, voltage, and temperature gauges, with
a plethora of warning lights filling the rest of the dashboard.
Soundtrack choices are provided by an upgraded Alpine AM/FM/CD/AUX
head unit with Bluetooth connectivity. In back, we find a wealth of
cargo space easily accessed via the massive rear door.
Under the hood, we are treated to a 2.5-liter 300 Tdi Turbo Diesel
inline-four-cylinder engine. From the factory, this motor made
approximately 111 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 195 pound-feet of
torque at a low 1,800 rpm. That turbocharged power is routed
through a believed original, tried-and-true five-speed manual
transmission and dual-range transfer case before being sent out to
either the rear or all four corners, where 16-inch Land Rover
wheels wait, shod in off-road-ready all terrain tires.
