GR Auto Gallery of Traverse City is pleased to present this 1955
Ford
Thunderbird Convertible for your consideration. This driver quality
example
benefits from a full restoration undergone from 1997-2003 and comes
with the
factory hard top. The first-generation Thunderbird was Ford's
answer to the
European roadsters of the early 1950s, offering a blend of sporty
performance
and American comfort. This 1955 example captures that same spirit,
finished in
striking Thunderbird Blue with a matching interior. While not a
concours car, it
presents well despite cosmetic blemishes. The only item we noted
during our
review of the vehicle is that the brakes will need some minor
adjustment.
The Thunderbird was a rushed development in response to the
Corvette but
then ended up as a personal luxury roadster instead. In the first
year (1955)
Thunderbird was a tremendous success selling 16,155 cars compared
to just
700 Corvette's sold. The Thunderbirds were marketed towards their
features
rather than performance despite having a 292 cu in V8. The 1955 to
1957 years
were just 2-seaters and remained that way until 2002 (which were
modeled
after the 1st generation Thunderbirds whom many believe are the
pinnacle of
the line).
The example offered here is powered by a 292 V8 paired with an
automatic
transmission. The engine runs smoothly and the transmission shifts
as it should.
This bird is in a fair driver-quality shape and ready for this
year's car season!
The first generation Tbirds remain one of the most collectible cars
to this day.
Don't miss your opportunity to own this affordable example.
Overall, this
Thunderbird is a well-sorted driver. It delivers reliable
performance, comfort,
and style, making it a joy to take on the road. Everywhere it goes,
it garners
attention and admiration-exactly as a 1955 Thunderbird should.
