Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is proud to present this stunning
1986 BMW 635CSi, finished in iconic Cinabar Red over Anthracite
leather. With its unmistakable shark-nose styling, factory 5-speed
manual transmission, and freshly restored BBS wheels, this E24 is a
classic embodiment of 1980s German luxury and performance. It has
just 112,118 miles on the odometer and carries a clean title and
carfax.
This BMW is truly awesome. In March 2025, the engine oil,
transmission fluid, and rear differential fluid were all changed,
ensuring smooth operation across the board. The car is in great
mechanical and cosmetic condition and has clearly been cared for
with enthusiasm and attention to detail. Wherever it goes, it draws
compliments and admiration.
Under the hood sits BMW's legendary M30 3.5L inline-six, known for
its smooth power delivery and bulletproof durability. This example
is completely stock, just as BMW intended, and the engine runs
beautifully. The exhaust system is also factory-spec, with polished
tips that add to the car's clean, original look. Recent maintenance
includes new under-hood foam in December 2021, crank position
sensors in January 2022, new rubber exhaust hangers the same month,
a new fuel line to the cold start injector in March 2022, and a new
coolant hose to the heater core at the same time.
Mated to the engine is a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission that
shifts with precision and confidence. In March 2025, the
transmission and differential fluids were both changed, completing
the full fluid service and making the car ready for immediate
use.
The suspension retains its stock configuration, preserving the
car's comfortable yet capable handling character. Approximately
30,000 miles ago, the shocks were replaced, and in January 2022,
key front-end components-including suspension and steering
arms-were refreshed and followed by a professional alignment. The
result is a car that drives well, with a centered steering wheel
and tight, responsive feedback. The braking system remains in its
original specification and functions properly.
Complementing the car's performance is a set of restored factory
BMW BBS wheels with short valve stems. These wheels are wrapped in
225/50R16 Yokohama tires, installed in February 2022 and driven
fewer than 100 miles since. This high-end $3,000 setup adds a crisp
finishing touch to the car's stance and ride quality.
Inside, you'll find Anthracite leather sport seats in nice
condition. There are no tears in the leather, with only a small
area of wear on the driver's seat bolster. The grey carpeting is
original and remarkably well preserved, with no major stains or
tears. New BMW floor mats, installed in February 2022, have never
seen foot traffic. The dash is in good overall shape.
Functionality is another strength. The factory Alpine radio remains
in place, connected to a Blaupunkt amplifier in the trunk. All four
original speakers are operational. While the tape deck still plays,
it occasionally struggles to eject tapes, so it is recommended to
leave it unused. The car's heater and air conditioning both
function properly, and the blower fans and exterior vent motor were
replaced in recent years. Every gauge, switch, light, button, and
even the onboard computer works exactly as it should, which is rare
for a car of this vintage.
Overhead, the original headliner remains in place with only minor
staining but no rips or sagging. The rear speaker pods are in
awesome condition. In the glove box, you'll find the original BMW
flashlight, upgraded to LED and fully functional, docked in its
factory charging port. Two working BMW keys, including a spare, are
included with the sale.
The Cinabar Red paint has been freshly buffed and treated with a
graphene coating. While not quite showroom-new, the finish is
vibrant and consistent, with only a few minor touched-up chips that
are invisible from even a short distance. All the exterior
rubber-including bumper pieces and trim at all four corners-has
been replaced in recent years, and the car has been garage-kept
since. The bumper plastics are all new, and there are no major
dents or scratches on the exterior metal. The trunk is clean and
complete, featuring the full original BMW tool kit. The driver's
side door seal was replaced in February 2022, while the passenger
side seal remains original and functional.
This car also comes with a thoughtful collection of BMW memorabilia
and factory materials. Included are the original owner's booklet,
BMW 635CSi user's manual, cassette tape and head cleaner, radio
manual, and security cards (note: the codes do not match the
current radio, which replaced the original-but the correct codes
for the installed radio are known). Also included is a period BMW
635CSi advertising magazine that adds to the authenticity and
collector value.
This 1986 BMW 635CSi is the kind of car that rewards a discerning
buyer. With timeless styling, a manual transmission, a great
service history, and originality throughout, it's a rare and highly
desirable example of BMW's grand touring legacy. Whether you're
looking to drive it, show it, or collect it-this car is ready.
