Development of the 959 supercar begat numerous improvements to the whole Porsche lineup. Not only did its all wheel drive system make its way to the new-for-1989 Carrera 4, its adaptive suspension and numerous luxury features helped shade development of the 911 for years to come. Of course, it also brought numerous enhancements to the company's turbocharged models. While a 911 wouldn't feature twin-turbochargers until the release of the 993, the 964 still benefited from improvements to the 930's motor, increasing power to 320hp.
Just as with the 930 versus the standard G-Series Carrera, the 964 Turbo featured wider rear bodywork, special suspension, heavy-duty brakes, a fixed rear spoiler, and, of course, substantially more performance. 60mph could be attained from a stop in a mere 5.4 seconds and the car was rated to reach 168mph. Naturally, interior appointments were superb, making the Turbo once again the choice for discerning enthusiasts. Today, all 964s are well-regarded for their essentially perfect balance between classic 911 styling/feel and modern luxuries - Turbos are, of course, some of the best investment choices of the bunch.
