If you were to close your eyes and conjure up an image of a
high-impact impact classic truck with the magnetism to turn heads
wherever it may roam, the result might well look very similar to
this 1954 Chevrolet 3100. Clad in a colorful metallic paint job
that pairs a Royal Blue base with flames that transition from light
blue to pink as they run the lengths of its sides, this vintage
pickup is a definite attention-getter in its current state, and a
little TLC will elevate it to its full potential. To be clear,
we're not talking about anything structural being needed here. Its
lowered stance combines with a color-matched front bumper, as well
as Centerline wheels that include wider rubber in back, to create a
standout look, while a side-mounted spare tire gives a nod to the
era when this Chevy first rolled off the assembly line.
Peer inside and you'll see that the cabin reflects the same
aesthetic theme as what's on display outside, with a Royal Blue
vinyl bench seat featuring a contoured turquoise inlay that's
bracketed by matching door panels. The seat is in great shape,
well-positioned for plenty more future miles and, as you direct
your attention forward, you'll see that those accenting exterior
flames that can't help but catch your attention are matched on the
dash. You'll also find a set of crystal-clear digital gauges in the
instrument cluster, just in front of an aftermarket billet steering
wheel mounted on a tilt column that will need some attention before
returning to action. A Vintage Air climate control system has been
added, and it's functioning in top form to keep this 3100
comfortable to drive throughout the year.
Beneath the hood lurks a 350-cubic-inch V8, equipped with an
Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, along with an aluminum intake by
the same manufacturer. The engine is in good form, pairing with a
three-speed automatic TH400 transmission and sending a deep exhaust
note out of the pair of featured Flowmaster mufflers. There's a
nice array of chrome accessories on hand to up the eye candy
factor, along with an HEI ignition to maximize spark and an
electric cooling fan to keep operating temperatures in check. This
3100 rides on a Mustang II-style front end that includes rack and
pinion steering, along with a level of adjustability that will
allow you to dial in the ride to your liking.
