This custom 1949 Mercury is owned and was built by Jesse James of
West Coast Choppers. It's powered by a Chevrolet Performance Ram
Jet 502ci big-block engine producing 502hp, featuring a forged
rotating assembly, GM oval-port aluminum cylinder heads, Edelbrock
single-plane intake and Holley EFI system with custom valve covers.
Power is sent through a TH400 automatic transmission to a Currie
9-inch rear end with a limited-slip differential. The custom
chassis incorporates a West Coast Choppers NASCAR-style suspension,
with WCC A-arms up front and WCC trailing arms with a center link
in the rear, paired with Ridetech coilovers. Stopping power is
handled by Baer four-wheel disc brakes. The body showcases a
chopped top, rounded and louvered hood, and a one-piece front clip,
along with custom bumpers, grille, marker lights, inner fenders and
firewall. It is finished in Sherwin-Williams Oxblood Red paint and
rides on Curtis Speed 18-inch wheels with WCC custom caps and
engraving, wrapped in BFGoodrich Advantage T/A radial tires.
Inside, the cabin features a custom billet dash with the grille
design carried throughout, an art deco-style clock, Classic
Instruments gauges, a Lokar shifter and pedals, and a custom
multi-ring billet steering wheel with engraved detailing.
