2002 Chevrolet Silverado LS 1500 Long Bed 4x4 Pickup
"Apart from the suppleness of its suspension, the Silverado's most
impressive feat is the performance of its 4.8 liter base V8.
Although it couldn't keep up with the cammer Toyota, this proven
pushrod design reached 60 mph in 9.2 seconds, easily outran the 4.7
liter Ram, and pulled ahead of the F-150 when both were loaded with
1000 pounds. Bottom line, this Silverado is a terrifically
competent hauler." Car and Driver, April 2002 Truck comparison
article.
For consignment, a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS long bed 4x4
with a title verified 85,956 actual miles. This pampered pickup
features a Jasper transmission installed at 50,000 miles and a Leer
hard case locking bed cover.
Exterior
With all the formality of a government issued truck, this one
presents large and in charge with two stage Indigo Blue paint with
plenty of chrome accenting including a large front bumper, side
mirrors with a mirror like shell, and bold side steps. You'll need
those to climb aboard this 4x4, lifted over 18-inch 2020 wheels on
265/65R18 tires with an early 2020 date code and accentuated by
black plastic wheel opening trim. Up front, the Silverado's
distinct bands of lights over lights are separated by even more
chrome trim on the eggcrate grille, topped by a bug guard to send
those critters over the top where they'll tumble over bold cab
lights and the hard tonneau before regaining control of their
flight. Imperfections include some swirl heavy marks, a chip, and
some blemished clear coat on the hood, a scratch in the black
plastic, various chips, scratches, scuffs, faded paint, and peeling
clear.
Interior
Black molded plastic, plastic switchgear, big speakers, and a cloth
insert are all contoured into the robust door panels and both are
in nice condition. Stepping up, we note black cloth bucket seats
with a console that doubles as a middle jumper, and once again, the
condition is nice. A four spoke steering wheel leads to a practical
instrument cluster and a dash replete with the gray plastic
controls that were ubiquitous during this period while the AM/FM/CD
radio and rear view camera is displayed on a center screen over the
A/C panel. Black carpet below, gray molded headliner and overhead
console above, and a fully lined bed topped by factory wheels
completes the interior tour.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is the 4.8 liter LS V8, fuel injected and rated at
270 horsepower. Behind it, a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission
sends power initially to the front and rear axles with 3.73 gears.
The bay presents cleanly, showing minimal signs of its 85,000
miles.
Undercarriage
The underside bears better witness to the mileage, as they usually
do, with oxidized metals and surface rust in the usual spots along
with flaking paint and residual oil film. Structurally, she looks
good and is adorned with a single exhaust still running through the
original muffler and power disc brakes at all four wheels.
Suspension consists of torsion bars up front and leaf springs in
the back.
Drive-Ability
We climb up into the comfortable cabin, start the engine, and find
no surprises. The truck tracks high and straight, affords good
visibility and some utility with the sliding rear window, and
plenty of power underfoot. It is not overwrought with bells and
whistles and as a result, all functions on board operate as they
should and it's off to the truck room for this blue beauty! While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at
the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions
will be working at the time of your purchase.
2002 doesn't seem like that long ago, and trucks have come a long
way since then. But not always in a favorable way, and not to beat
a dead horse, but older, simpler trucks like this trusty Chevrolet
are becoming more desirable each day. If you need a work truck,
parts hauler, or something to pull your trailer, this good looking
high flying Silverado will do the trick!
