1950 Ford Australian Ute
VIN: Q1NVAAAS0Y002
Ford Australia was the first company to produce an Australian Coupe Ute. When the Australian version was displayed in the US, Henry Ford nicknamed it the "Kangaroo Chaser".
In 1951, Ford released a "utility" model, which was based on the 48-215 sedans. With both Ford and Holden now producing Utes, this started the long-standing tradition of Australian-designed 2 door vehicles with a tray at the back, based on a passenger-car sedan chassis.
A Gentleman in Oregon who was a member of the HAMB (jalopyjournal.com) since 2008, traded for this 1950 Ford Ute from Australia. He traced it back to October 2009, where it was purchased at an Auction in Medford, Oregon. It has the VIN#, - modification tag on the left side of the firewall from Queensland, Australia dated July 2000, when it was originally exported into the United States.
When bought in 2009 it was chopped, wheel wells restyled, tailgate filled, converted to left hand drive. Next they added a Toyota front clip, 9" Ford rear end. Tubbed the back end, added air ride and a hard tonneau cover. The body work is very well done although it's starting to show a few minor flaws. It now has the SBC with win turbos for the power!
The car is the talk of every show and a blast to drive.
