preserved example of late-1970s Pontiac performance, this 1979
Pontiac Trans Am is finished in striking Mayan Red over a black
custom interior, presenting with just 18,000 original miles from

originality, this Trans Am represents one of the most sought-after

Milwaukee area of Wisconsin, and was assembled at the Van Nuys
Assembly Plant. Today it remains exceptionally well documented and
carefully preserved, retaining an impressive collection of its
original paperwork, including the original purchase agreement,
window sticker, build sheet, purchase invoice, warranty plan, and
additional factory documentation.Power comes from the highly
desirable W72 Performance Package, featuring the legendary L78
6.6-liter Pontiac 400 cubic-inch V8 engine equipped with a
four-barrel carburetor. For 1979, the W72 represented the final
high-performance version of Pontiac's 400 engine and delivered
strong torque and authentic muscle-car character. The engine is
paired with a close-ratio four-speed manual transmission and a
3.23-ratio Positraction limited-slip rear axle, offering an
engaging and responsive driving experience. Four-wheel disc brakes
with power assist provide confident stopping power.Further
enhancing its performance credentials is the WS6 Special
Performance Package, which added special suspension tuning, larger
sway bars, quick-ratio steering, and cast aluminum wheels. The car
rides on its correct gray cast aluminum wheels wrapped in PolySteel
radial tires sized 255/70R15, providing the proper stance and
appearance. The WS4 Trans Am package adds the model's iconic
styling cues, including the D80 rear deck spoiler and aggressive
body design that defined Pontiac performance in the late
1970s.Comfort and convenience features are abundant and include air
conditioning, power windows, tilt steering column, floor console,
removable roof panels, Soft-Ray tinted glass, door edge guards, and
both a standard defroster and electric rear window defroster. The
interior is equipped with bucket seats, a full rally gauge cluster,
including tachometer, auxiliary gauges, and clock, reflecting the
performance-oriented nature of the car. Additional equipment
includes a heavy-duty alternator, heavy-duty battery, and a
stowaway space-saver spare tire. With its low original mileage,
extensive documentation, desirable W72/WS6 performance combination,
and highly original condition, this Mayan Red Trans Am stands as a
remarkable survivor from Pontiac's golden era of performance.
Collectors recognize the 1979 four-speed W72 cars as the last true
Pontiac 400-powered Trans Am's, making examples such as this
increasingly desirable in today's collector car market.
