1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible L72 427/450HP Matching Numbers
Early Production
This is American big-block performance at its absolute peak.
Offered for sale is an exceptional 1966 Chevrolet Corvette
Convertible, powered by its matching-numbers L72 427ci Big Block
V8, an early-production example rated at 450 horsepower-before
Chevrolet officially reduced the rating to 425hp.
Finished in stunning Nassau Blue over a White and Blue vinyl
interior with a White convertible top, this Corvette delivers one
of the most iconic and desirable color combinations of the C2 era.
Backed by an NCRS Shipping Data Report showing a production date of
December 8, 1965, this car represents one of the earliest and most
sought-after examples of the legendary L72.
Introduced in 1966, the L72 427 V8 was one of the most formidable
engines of the muscle car era. Featuring 11.0:1 compression, solid
lifters, forged internals, and high-flow rectangular port heads,
these engines were widely regarded as underrated at their
advertised output. Early engines like this October-coded example
are especially desirable, as they represent the brief window when
Chevrolet rated them at 450 horsepower before adjusting to
425hp-believed to be for insurance and internal policy reasons.
With development influenced by Zora Arkus-Duntov and Chevrolet's
racing efforts to compete with rivals like the Shelby Cobra 427,
the L72 Corvette became one of the most potent performance machines
of the 1960s.
This example has been restored to a high standard, featuring a
show-quality paint job, bright chrome throughout, and correct
factory details including proper ignition shielding. Performance
and drivability are enhanced with side pipes and 4-wheel disc
brakes, while maintaining its authentic big-block character.
An early-production L72 427/450hp Corvette Convertible is among the
most desirable of all mid-year Corvettes. With documented build
date, matching drivetrain, and show-quality presentation, this
example represents a rare opportunity to own one of the most
powerful and historically significant Corvettes of the 1960s.
