There's no doubt that a lot of work went into bringing this 1987
Chevrolet R10 4x4 to its current stellar state and its next lucky
owner stands to reap the benefits of those efforts. It wouldn't be
easy to find a classic pickup that can match the overall condition
of this one. Its two-tone paint scheme, blending dark brown and
tan, is in top form, with just a bit of metallic flake in the
darker sections to catch the sun. Clear glass surrounds its cabin.
Even the bed in back, so often the first place to show the effects
of rugged use, looks as clean as you could want. Add to that a
reassuringly solid, "ready to roll" driving condition and you have
one standout vintage ride.
The interior still has a convincingly authentic look and makes for
a nice, comfortable driving environment, with a bench seat at its
center that blends vinyl and cloth and an expanse of carpeting
below that's in good shape and well-fitted. As you peer through the
factory steering wheel still perched on the column, you'll see that
the array of stock gauges beyond it are easily readable and
functional and the dash pad above them is straight and uncracked.
If you aim to drive this Chevy throughout the year, you'll be
pleased to know that its air conditioning not only works great but
has also been converted to accommodate modern R134a
refrigerant.
Not surprisingly, given the clean condition of the rest of this
R10, when you lift the hood, a nicely maintained engine bay awaits
below, framing the featured, period-correct 350-cubic-inch V8 to
perfection. Armed with a four-barrel carburetor, the engine runs
well, starting up with ease and pulling with enthusiasm. Nearly
everything in sight remains in stock configuration, save for an
updated air compressor, battery and shocks that have been added to
enhance reliability. This vintage Chevy tracks straight as an
arrow, with no worrisome wandering to contend with and, with power
steering and power brakes that include discs up front, it's easy to
navigate and bring to a stop. When the spirit of adventure compels
you to veer off the asphalt and onto more rugged terrain, its
four-wheel drive function works without a hitch.
