The 1946 Ford Business Coupe symbolized a return to peace and
normalcy after World War II. Since 1942, civilian car production
had halted. Ford resumed building cars in mid-1945, and the
refreshed designs met the large demand for new cars. The sleek
two-door coupe with the Super Deluxe and upscale trim came with
extra chrome accents, a horn ring, dual sun visors, and premium
upholstery. With no back seat but plenty of room for salesmen?s
samples, this model was perfect for the traveling salesman or small
business entrepreneurs hitting the roads during this booming
postwar economy. This 1946 Ford Super Deluxe has never left North
Carolina. The owner has known the car for 40 years and purchased it
from the local area. It was solid to begin with. Now it has modern
suspension, a beautiful red leatherette interior, modern amenities,
and a powerful engine. The exterior is black and the body is
straight. All chrome and trim are in excellent shape, shiny, and in
new condition. The new red bucket seat interior is in sharp contrast
with the exterior, and the headliner is red. The dash presents in
above average condition. The original instruments are in great
shape, and the chrome is excellent as well. Under the dash is a
mounted aftermarket gauge that measures the RPM. Ford floormats
grace the new Corvette red carpet.Engine is a 351 CID Windsor crate
engine. Miles show just a bit over 29,000 miles. Transmission is a
3-speed automatic with overdrive. This Ford started up right away
and ran very well!Options include power front disc brakes, power
steering, air conditioning and heat, and an AM/FM radio. The front
end is a Mustang II Heidts front end. The rear is a 9 Ford rear,
gear ratio around 3;55. The original fuel lines were replaced, and
a new gas tank was installed. This 46 Ford is a great cruiser and
one that will present very well at local shows.Viewing and
inspections are welcome by appointment only.
