This custom 1960 Chevrolet Corvette topless roadster is powered by
a modified 6.2-liter LS3 V-8 engine originally sourced from a 2008
Chevrolet Corvette C6. The engine retains its aluminum block,
wet-sump oiling system, cast-iron crankshaft, powdered-metal
connecting rods and cast-aluminum pistons. Performance upgrades
include ported aluminum cylinder heads, a Comp camshaft, custom air
box with K&N conical air filter, ceramic-coated headers and a
MagnaFlow exhaust system with 3-inch pipes and mufflers exiting
through black-anodized quad tips beneath the rear valance. The
factory electronic control module was tuned for the configuration
and output is estimated at over 500hp. Power is delivered through
an upgraded C6 automatic transmission equipped with a Chevrolet
Performance torque converter with a 3,200-rpm stall speed while the
flywheel, driveshaft and rear axle remain stock C6 components. The
chassis retains the Corvette independent double-wishbone suspension
design but replaces the transverse composite mono-leaf springs with
coilover shocks and adjustable titanium springs from Stance. Delrin
bushings were installed throughout the suspension, and the chassis
was lowered approximately 3 inches. Larger anti-roll bars measuring
1.22 inches in the front and 1.35 inches in the rear were added to
improve stability and cornering. Stopping is handled by Z51 brake
calipers paired with cross-drilled rotors from a Corvette Z06.
These are mounted behind Z06 alloy wheels measuring 18x9 in the
front with Nitto Invo 275/40 tires and 19x11 in the rear with
325/30 tires. The body design is based on the 1960 Chevrolet
Corvette, the final year of quad-headlight styling on late C1
models, while incorporating extensive custom modifications. The
rocker panels were widened 2 inches per side in the front and 1
inch per side in the rear. The body was lengthened 4 inches at the
door openings, and the rear quarters were extended an additional
4.5 inches per side. Front fenders were widened 3.5 inches and
redesigned without the original chrome strakes. A new nose section
extends 2 inches farther forward while maintaining the Corvette
hood creases. Additional work includes a custom cowl allowing the
original C1 windshield to sit lower and a rear cowl with a Corvette
crossed-flags emblem behind the seats. The interior features
modified Subaru Forester seats reupholstered in leather with yellow
accents on the steering wheel and console. Custom leather door
panels incorporate molded armrests and speakers for the Bose audio
system. This topless roadster has safety hoops mounted behind the
cabin.
