I purchased this amazing Cordovan Maroon ’68 RS convertible from a local family here in the Atlanta area who have owned this car for over 36 years! It was originally sold at Rutledge Chevrolet in Lafayette, GA on May 25, 1968. We have the original sales invoice and receipt for the $800 deposit the folks put down on it when they bought it new. I believe the car has only had 3 owners based on the documentation we have. It appears to have had one repaint in the original color, done in 1982 by the second owner as documented in the receipts. It was then sold in 1989 to the folks I purchased it from. These folks are amazing car enthusiasts who spent weekends at car events and cruise-ins and truly loved this Camaro. In addition to this Camaro they also had a C-2 Corvette Convertible and C-3 Corvette Convertible. Sadly, the owners health declined over the past several years and they were no longer able to drive and enjoy this beauty so the difficult decision was made and it is time for this beautiful Camaro to live its next chapter with a lucky new owner…maybe you?!!!
I’ll do my best to provide enough images, a video walk around and start up, and an honest description to help you decide if this fantastic Camaro is the one for you. I am also a transport worker and can assist the lucky new owner with a great rate on enclosed transport anywhere in the country and I welcome overseas buyers and can arrange transport to the port of your choice here in the US. Sit back and enjoy!!
Always a Georgia car, this ’68 Camaro RS has a rock solid body with all original body panels. Based on receipt history it appears the car received one repaint in the original Cordovan Maroon color in 1982. Hard to believe the paint n this beauty is 44 yrs old as it has held up beautifully which again speaks volumes about the overall quality and care this Camaro received in its life. Paint quality overall is very nice with a few minor chips that have been touched up over the years. Body panels are nice and straight and doors open and shut like new. The folks I bought it from did some cosmetic work to it after they purchased it in 1989 including a new front bumper and re-chroming the original rear bumper. This one has the RS package with the black lattice grille vacuum operated concealed headlight doors that function correctly still. “RS” emblem on the grille and rear filler cap, sports styled back up lights in the lower rear valance, front and rear wheel opening moldings, lower body side molding and stainless trim on the top of the doors. All of the chrome and trim is in excellent condition. All of the glass is excellent condition and windows roll up and down nicely. The convertible top was also replaced and is a power top that functions perfectly and latches down nicely. Boot cover in great condition. You may notice it is not completely fastened down in some of the pics as it was cold and the boot cover was not used for a while so just needs to be stretched out a bit to fit correctly. Overall the paint and body on this RS Camaro are extremely nice and it will be welcomed at all of the local shows and cruise-ins and most likely will take home its share of trophies if that is what you enjoy
Open the drivers side door and you will see that this Camaro is equally as nice inside as it is outside. The code 714 Custom Deluxe bucket seat interior looks fantastic with no wear or tear evident. Front seats were redone by previous owner including new seat foams. Carpet was also replaced by previous owner. Dash looks great and you will notice the woodgrain accents on dash and console with the Staple style shifter. Hard to miss the beautiful upgraded woodgrain steering wheel. Aftermarket am/fm/cassette with speakers neatly mounted in the door panels works nicely. All of the gauges, blinkers and lights appear to be working correctly. All of the weatherstripping looks fantastic and new window felts were done by previous owner. The interior basically looks like it did when it left the showroom and you will be proud to show it off. Here’s a look inside
As mentioned this is a matching number car with the Original, matching # 327 V8 mated to the original 2-speed Power Glide automatic transmission.. The original 327 is believed to have just under 104,000 original miles and runs beautifully. The #’s on the engine pad are very legible and definitely match the last digits of the Vin #. Automatic transmission was rebuilt by previous owners and shift super smooth. I drove this car home almost an hour on the highway and it performs beautifully. The exhaust was completely replaced and has dual tips all and sounds great. This car drives really nicely and can be driven anywhere! Power steering makes handling a breeze and the power brakes are also dialed in and stop on a dime. Suspension is tight and right! Front end was completely rebuilt and this car handles the road amazingly. The 15″ Rally wheels were replaced and look close to new and it is wearing Firestone Red Line tires for that period correct look. We have files full of all the maintenance records by year and this was an extremely well maintained car throughout its life. You should not need to do anything to this car but get in , turn the key and drive your heart out!
Few more areas that the smart buyer will want to know about….Floorpans, trunk, etc?? Be careful of other ads that do not show these areas because usually there is a reason they neglect to show you these. No worries here!! Floorpans appear original, are bone dry and rock solid with no rust issues whatsoever!!! Inside of the trunk has the correct mat and spare tire and the trunk pan is also rock solid. Rear quarter panel trunk drop offs look great as well. Folks, this is a quality car up and down, inside and out!!!
Great paperwork history including the original sales invoice and tons of receipt history from maintenance and work done to this car over the years. This car was loved and was treated as part of the family for the past 36 years. The owners were very sad to see it go and I am sure the lucky new owner will be thrilled to see and drive it when it arrives in their driveway.
