The 1966 Chevrolet El Camino is the story of America's favorite car-truck. It was a vehicle that blended the style and comfort of a car with the utility of a pickup bed. The El Camino concept was first introduced in 1959 as a full-size coupe utility based on the Brookwood wagon platform and it was designed to challenge Ford's Ranchero. Demand dropped in 1960 and Chevrolet discontinued it. But the idea lived on and in 1964, Chevrolet revived the El Camino on the all-new Chevelle platform. Now it was more agile, affordable, and the timing was perfect for the growing muscle car era.For 1966, the El Camino had a more aggressive stance, a bold chrome grille, coke-bottle contours, and a long hood.
