1940 Chevrolet Special Deluxe, 2-door town sedan. Black with blue/black vinyl interior. VIN 9KA0423646. 216.5ci Stovebolt inline 6-cylinder, 3-speed column shift. 97,123 miles. Turn signals, bumper guards, wind deflectors, black steel wheels. Built April 1940 at the Norwood, Ohio assembly plant. An Ohio-built car that has spent its life in Ohio.
The engine compartment is unrestored. Oil bath air cleaner is in good condition. Engine block and lower components show oil coating with dirt and debris from long-term storage. Hoses and wiring are in fair condition. Manifold is rusted. Spark plug wires were disconnected at time of inspection, indicating the engine was in the process of being serviced. Has not run in several years. Will need full mechanical attention before driving.
Chassis is unrestored with surface rust typical for a car of this age. Light grease on suspension components. Front bumper shows rust starting, rear bumper is fair. Tires are heavily dry rotted and do not hold air. Hub caps were not on the wheels but were present in the vehicle.
Interior is in usable condition. Seat upholstery is good with light wear. Steering wheel shows light wear. Side and rear windows are good. Windshield has a chip on the driver's side. Wheel housing on the driver's side of the trunk shows rust perforation, with a small hole in the trunk floor near the wheel housing.
Exterior carries an older repaint. Black paint is rough with peeling and worn-through areas on the hood, roof, and deck lid. Fender paint appears to have been brush applied and is peeling. Stainless trim is in good condition. Chrome trim is pitted. Running boards are fair. Front passenger fender has a scuff near the front. All trim and brightwork is present, an important factor for restoration of vehicles from this era.
A good candidate for full restoration or mechanical recommissioning for a hobbyist or collector looking for a largely complete pre-war Chevrolet.
