This 1968 Triumph TR250, VIN CD/793-L, is an exceptional example of
one of the rarest and most desirable Triumph models ever produced.
This car has been treated to a comprehensive restoration and is
confirmed by its British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT)
Certificate as a factory-correct Jasmine over Black North American
Export model. Built on October 2, 1967, and dispatched to the
Leyland Motor Corporation of North America on November 16, 1967,
this TR250 retains its original engine (CC/785). This is a
collector-grade, rust-free, and meticulously maintained runner that
is ready for its next caretaker.
Exterior
The body is super straight and impressively dry, as you would
expect from a car of this caliber. Finished in its factory-correct
Jasmine, the paint presents very well. There are two small chips
that were touched up; while not a professional touch-up, the color
match is very good. The front bumper is brand new, while the rear
shows very light, honest pitting. The car is equipped with a vinyl
top and includes the boot cover, spare wheel, and jack. We note a
small patch on the vinyl top where a minor tear was repaired, and
one frame bar has a broken ear, though it remains fully functional.
It rides on tires in great shape and retains its iconic USA/Canada
specification lights and Laminated windscreen.
Interior
The interior is in excellent condition, featuring a Black trim and
hood as specified on the factory record. The carpet kit and seat
covers appear new, and the cabin is free from any unwanted odors.
It features a heater and properly mounted seat belts. The dash and
controls are all functional, including the Miles-per-hour
speedometer. Included with the sale is a box of spare parts, which
contains various electrical components and a new glove box
liner.
Underhood & Underbody
Under the hood sits the original 2.5L engine (CC/785). The engine
bay is tidy, reflecting the 2005 restoration. The motor makes great
power and is free from smoke or unwanted noises, though we do note
a small fuel drip from the forward carburetor. The frame and
underside are exceptionally clean, showing no signs of significant
prior repairs, confirming this was a solid, straight car before its
restoration. Much of the suspension has been refreshed with new
bushings.
Driving
This TR250 is a blast to drive and performs like a well-sorted
classic. Cold starts are easy, and the car warms up to a steady,
quiet idle. The clutch is in great shape, and shifting through the
gears feels fantastic and tight. Braking is confident and stops
straight. On the road, the suspension feels nice and tight, and the
car drives out exactly as a high-end restoration should. Since its
2005 restoration, it has been seldom driven, appearing primarily at
local European car events in the Chicago suburbs.
Conclusion
This is a rare opportunity to own a documented, factory-correct
Triumph TR250 with its original powertrain and a clear BMIHT
pedigree. Owned by a prominent family on Chicago's North Shore and
meticulously maintained, this car offers the perfect balance of
"survivor" soul and "restored" reliability. Between the unique
Jasmine colorway and the robust mechanical condition, this TR250 is
ready for the show field or the open road. Please note: We only
have what is seen in the photos and video; we encourage you to
review the Heritage Certificate and restoration details
thoroughly.
