Before muscle cars got polite... before horsepower came with driver
aids and warning labels... Mopar was building street brawlers that
didn't ask permission. The 1969 Plymouth GTX was one of them - a
luxury muscle car with the heart of a prizefighter.
And this one shows up swinging.
Finished in R6 Scorch Red, with a sinister black accent running
along the bottom of the body, this GTX carries the kind of presence
that stops conversations at stoplights. Under the hood lives the
original 440 Magnum, the big-block monster that made the GTX a
feared name on American streets. Paired with the legendary 727
TorqueFlite automatic, this setup is pure Mopar brutality -
effortless torque, instant throttle response, and the unmistakable
sound of a big block that means business.
Backing the power is the factory 8 rear end with 3.23 Sure Grip
posi, delivering the kind of traction that lets the 440 dig in and
launch with authority.
Inside, the contrast is killer. A white interior with El Paso
woodgrain inserts gives the cabin that perfect late-60s blend of
muscle and upscale swagger. The original seat frames are still with
the car - and the seller even preserved the factory seat frame
tags, laminated to protect them as proof of originality.
This car wasn't thrown together. It's been carefully dialed in
where it counts.
New Legendary seat covers bring the interior back to
factory-correct form, while the front seat sliders have been powder
coated for durability. Even the details most people miss are right
- including date-coded spark plug wires, along with correct Mopar
heater hoses and clamps.
Comfort wasn't forgotten either. Air conditioning has just been
installed and charged, making this big-block bruiser just as
enjoyable on summer cruises as it is lighting up the pavement.
The stance is exactly how a GTX should sit - aggressive and ready.
Fresh 15-inch chrome Magnum 500 wheelswrapped in BFGoodrich Radial
T/A tires give it the classic muscle car footprint, with 275/60R15s
in the rear and 225/70R15s up front.
Handling and ride quality are dialed in with new air shocks, while
the car retains power steering and power brakes with front discs
and rear drums for confident control.
Even the details of the body have been addressed - door, hood, and
trunk gaps have all been properly adjusted, giving the car a clean,
tight presence that reflects careful attention during the
build.
And the headline that serious Mopar guys care about most:
