There is nothing quite like a black Smokey and the Bandit-style
1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. With the gold Firebird hood decal,
gold pinstriping, and gold emblems flowing throughout the exterior,
this sports car is an instant attention grabber. Original-style
gold wheels at all four corners, complete with polished beauty
rings, remain one of the signature staples of this classic Trans Am
look. The front end presents well, and the rear spoiler and tail
section follow suit with the same clean appearance. As a T-top car,
it delivers that open-air driving experience that made these cars
so popular in the early '80s. The correct fender vents are present,
upgraded headlights add a modern touch, and all seals and weather
stripping appear to be in good condition.
Inside, the interior is clean and nicely restored. Black leather
with checkered cloth inserts covers the seats and door panels,
giving the cabin a sporty factory-style appearance. The front seats
are aftermarket units with bolsters and headrests for added comfort
and support. A stock-style OEM steering wheel sits ahead of the
factory gauge cluster, framed by a factory-style aluminum dashboard
bezel. The center console is in good shape and houses the floor
shifter along with the power window switches. An Alpine head unit
powers Alpine speakers throughout the cabin, offering an updated
sound system while keeping the interior looking tidy. Carpets, door
jambs, door sill plates, and the trunk area are all clean and well
presented.
Under the hood, the engine bay features plenty of chrome accents.
Chrome valve covers, a chrome alternator, and a chrome A/C
compressor bring the shine, complemented by a polished aluminum
serpentine belt system. Fuel is delivered through a Holley
carburetor mounted on a Weiand Street Warrior intake, paired with
Edelbrock heads, all feeding the stout 350 cubic-inch V8. Backing
the engine is a 700R4 automatic transmission sending power to a
10-bolt rear axle. The suspension retains a factory-style setup
with the addition of a Detroit Speed front sway bar. Gold
stock-style 17-inch wheels wrapped in 275/40ZR17 tires sit at all
four corners. And for that right muscle car sound, this Trans Am is
equipped with long-tube headers, dual exhaust with an X-pipe, and
MagnaFlow mufflers.
