When it comes to owning an exotic-looking sports car, most people
believe that it will cost them their life savings. They then spend
the entirety of their ownership handling their newfound treasure
with kid gloves, afraid of a temperamental breakdown that some
high-end supercars are known for. But, with this 2005 Lotus Elise
Roadster we see here today, none of those concerns apply. Although
often overlooked, it is almost impossible to forget once you see
it. Yes, the original Chrome Orange paint helps, as does the
removable targa top and mid-engine layout. Perhaps the most
enticing aspect of this sports car is its barely used 17,893 actual
miles on the odometer.
Hop inside this thrilling two-seat sportster, and you're treated to
a clean and sleek black leather interior. Strap in, and you are
held snugly in place by super-supportive seats as a set of racy
white-faced gauges stares back at you from behind the compact
three-spoke steering wheel. Power locks, windows, air conditioning,
and an upgraded Bluetooth-enabled Pioneer AM/FM/CD/AUX head unit
offer plenty of soundtrack options for road or track.
Powering this pocket rocket is a Toyota-sourced aluminum block and
head mid-mounted 1.8-liter DOHC inline-four-cylinder engine that
produces 190 hp @ 7800 rpm and 138 lb-ft of torque @ 6800 rpm. That
rev-happy power is routed through a tried and true six-speed manual
transmission before heading out to the rear wheels. And while less
than 200 hp may sound slightly anemic, thanks to a svelte curb
weight of just 1975 pounds, 190 ponies is more than enough to make
this Lotus incredibly athletic. Motor Trend tested one of these
peppy performers back in July 2004 and clocked it from 0-60 mph in
just 5.1 seconds while trapping the quarter mile in 13.5 seconds at
102.9 mph.
