sale in our Mesa, Arizona showroom. The 442 was originally
delivered to Jim Kresel Oldsmobile in Gardena, California and was
sold new with a 400ci L78 V8 with a single four-barrel carburetor.
The "4-4-2" name (pronounced "Four-four-two") derives from the
original car's four-barrel carburetor, four-speed manual
transmission, and dual exhausts.
The car left the factory finished in Target Red (RR) and was
repainted in 2012. Features include fender vents, 442 badging,
driver side mirror, dual exhaust, chrome trim, side moldings,
window surrounds, and grille. Super Stock 14" wheels wear
Oldsmobile-logo center caps and P225/70R14 BF Goodrich Radial T/A
tires. The car is equipped with power steering along with power
front and rear drums.
The cabin features front bucket seats with a sports console and a
rear bench seat upholstered in the original black vinyl that
stretches to the door panels. Interior amenities include a console
Hurst shifter, bright doorsill guards, seatbelts for four
occupants, and vent windows. The 442 was delivered without a radio,
it was not a delete car. The two-spoke steering wheel features the
original Oldsmobile wheel and fronts the original gauges that
include a fuel gauge, 120-mph speedometer along with a combination
gauge with readouts for battery voltage, oil level, and
temperature. Autometer gauges were added for water and oil mounted
just under the dash. The odometer shows 68,604 miles.
The 400ci V8 L78 is the original motor that had a total rebuild in
2012 with paperwork. Engine block L78 390925-E with stock heads (B
389395) with a three two-barrel carburetor. The car was born a 4
BBL Q-Jet, the stock set up, intake, and 4 BBL will go with the
sale of the vehicle. It was born with a four-speed M21 but now has
a 1968 M21.
Included in the sale are the cars original window sticker,
protect-o-plate, and bill of sale which shows the cars original
$3,692.65 purchase price. You will also get the stock set up,
intake, and original 4 BBL carb. Car was born and raised in
Califorina and came to Arizona in 2015 and has been garaged ever
since.
