For Sale: 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS in ASTORIA, New York

Vehicle Description

1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS Available for Viewing at Amelia Island Car Week

Few Ferraris capture the spirit of the marque’s golden era quite like the Dino 246 GTS. Introduced as Ferrari’s first mid-engine production sports car, the Dino combined delicate Pininfarina styling with a beautifully balanced chassis and charismatic V6 engine, creating one of the most engaging analog driving experiences Ferrari ever produced.

A Rare Spec Example

We are pleased to present this 1973 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS (Chassis 06134), currently on display during Amelia Island Concours and Auction Week at the Omni Amelia Island Resort.

Originally finished in the rare and highly attractive color Nocciola, this Dino is one of just 72 examples originally produced in this color, and even more notably one of only 19 cars specified with Pelle Beige VM 846 interior, of which just 13 were GTS models. Later the GTS received a quality repaint to the classic Rosso Chiaro it wears today. One of the most distinctive features of this example is its covered headlights, documented as being fitted as early as 1976. Manufactured by Brandolini, these covers correctly follow the complex curvature of the Dino’s front bodywork, mirroring the natural body lines of the front fenders and giving the nose a particularly elegant and cohesive appearance from every angle.

Showing 40,500 miles, this Dino benefits from a well-documented history and was previously owned by noted Ferrari collector Ray Spear, founder of Guitar Center. During his ownership in 2005, the car received a comprehensive engine and gearbox rebuild performed by respected Ferrari specialists Carobu Engineering of Costa Mesa, California. The work is extensively documented with invoices, receipts, and a large collection of restoration photographs detailing the mechanical process.

More recently, the Dino has been serviced and maintained by renowned Ferrari specialist Patrick Ottis, further supporting the car’s strong mechanical pedigree.

The car is accompanied by an impressive documentation file including its original Ferrari Warranty Card and Owner’s Service Book, factory manuals and literature, original tool roll, extensive service invoices, photographic documentation of the mechanical rebuild, and two Ferrari key sets with Ferrari key fob.

This example also features several desirable details that further distinguish it, including Daytona-style seats (newly upholstered), a beautiful original dashboard, rare Campagnolo wheels, dealer-installed covered headlights, and cocoa floor mats complementing the interior.

Importantly, the body number remains stamped on the bonnet hinges, and the factory chalk markings are still visible on the rear firewall, further supporting the car’s well-preserved and honest character.

The Dino remains one of the most celebrated Ferraris ever produced — admired for its purity of design, perfectly balanced driving dynamics, and unmistakable V6 soundtrack. Well-documented examples with desirable options and known ownership history are increasingly sought after by collectors worldwide.

Collectors attending the concours or auctions are invited to contact us to arrange a private viewing.
