For consignment, a 1950 GMC 100 Series short bed pickup truck
showing 21,195 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a title
exemption. The bed has been shortened to 5'6" but the real story is
the unique color likely not available as a factory option in
1950.
Exterior
Hold onto your hats, fellas, this is one wild ride. Let's start
with the two stage Fuchsia Metallic paint which alone would be
unique and noteworthy, but it's adorned with dramatic pinstripe
flourishing on every side and dappled striping around the cab and
bed corners. An airbrushed night scene shows this very truck in a
cartoon-like depiction on the tailgate over a wooden bumper cover
that matches the wood and storage box in the bed. The five window
cab is epic and allows a 360 degree view of the world while the
front is highlighted by bold chrome, including headlight covers and
the old school GMC logo. 15-inch Weld Draglite wheels have
staggered widths and tuck big meats under the flared fenders.
Imperfections include some chips, scratches, and cracking
paint.
Interior
Ribbed black vinyl door panels feature a wood based armrest,
standard hardware, and a carpeted lower and the bucket seats are
sporty and clean. Up front, the banjo steering wheel fronts a dash
and console that combine old with new, including wood formed
faceplates and panels for the center stack that houses a myriad of
gauges. Wood also frames the AutoMeter tachometer and speedometer
as well as the AM/FM/Cassette radio within the black painted dash
and its original grated speaker and glovebox. A steel B&M
shifter resides in the center console while black carpet is
protected by diamond stitched mats. A clean headliner features a
singular bow brace and wood housing for the dome light.
Drivetrain
The polished firewall makes it look like there are twin 350's under
the hood, but indeed there's just one and it's wearing dual
Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetors and lots of polished parts. Power
steering and power brakes are on board and the motor is backed by a
TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the 10
bolt reaaxle. Headers are supplied to begin the exhaust
process.
Undercarriage
A chrome differential cover and yellow traction bars not only add a
bit of flair to the underside, but represent some old school
choices. The dual exhaust meets an H-pipe before entering a pair of
FlowMaster mufflers, finally terminating through polished tips
beyond the rear bumper. We have discs up front and drums in the
back, power assisted, and suspension that includes coil springs in
front and leaf springs with those traction bars out back. We have
clean conditions underneath with almost no surface rust to speak of
and a dry environment where the frame has been shortened to
accommodate the bed.
Drive-Ability
This stout pick up is a compact bundle of joy as the 350 rumbles to
life and we set out on the test loop to find decent power, straight
tracking, and good handling on a truck that is planted by the fat
tires and engaged traction bars. As noted, visibility is rivaled by
few other trucks and the interior is a comfortable perch. We note
the horn is not working but all other functions on board operate as
they should and it's off to the truck room for this beauty! While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at
the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions
will be working at the time of your purchase.
Here's a well sorted runner with a show ready engine that will
