When it comes to revolutionary designs in the automotive world, few
cars, if any, can rival the transition from the end of the C3
generation to the revolutionary fourth-generation Corvette. With a
shockingly low 41,992 actual miles on its odometer, this 1984
Chevrolet Corvette Z51 sports black paint stretched out over its
sleek targa top design, further accentuating that this first-year
C4 represents the biggest shift in design and technological
advancement from one generation to the next for GM's halo car.
Inside, we find the (now) retro digital dashboard that is beyond
cool and looks as though it would be right at home in an episode of
Knight Rider (if K.I.T.T. were a Corvette) or a Back to the Future
reboot, where Marty McFly chooses a quicker car this time around.
Pop off the removable Targa top, sink into the plush black leather
bucket seats, and enjoy the plethora of amenities like an original
style AM/FM/cassette AC Delco stereo, power locks, windows,
mirrors, driver's seat, air conditioning, and cruise control that
make any road trip a comfortable one.
Under the signature front-hinged Corvette hood, we find a 350
cubic-inch L83 V-8 engine. Although 205 horsepower and 290
pound-feet of torque may not seem as exciting today as it did forty
years ago, the C4's Crossfire-injected small block helped the 1984
Corvette run from 0-60 mph in less than seven seconds, making it
one of the five or six fastest cars in the entire world at the
time. Power is routed through a 700R4 four-speed automatic
transmission before being sent to a 3.07-geared rear end on its way
to a set of sixteen-inch factory alloy wheels shod in 255/50R-16
Falken tires.
