Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL
Pagoda. Finished in light blue metallic with a dark blue hard top,
with matching convertible top and wheel covers, this is a nicely
restored W113 roadster in a gorgeous color combination. After an
early history in Texas, this Pagoda was exported to Guatemala in
2001 and became part of the legendary Mario Sueiras collection. It
was restored in the early 2000s by Mr. Sueiras, the most
significant collector in Central America. In 2014 it was
repatriated and sold at Mecum Monterey along with a dozen other
cars from the Sueiras collection, and has remained under the care
of a Birmingham, Alabama enthusiast-owner since.
The body is straight with good paint quality and excellent chrome,
bumpers and trim. Nicely detailed underside with no known rust
issues. Both tops are in very good condition. Fender notches and
spot welds are present, and the body numbers on the hood, hard top
and boot cover match the data plate. Tires were installed in 2020
and have nearly full depth tread remaining. Interior presents in
restored condition throughout with excellent seats, carpets, door
panels, steering wheel and dash. Instrument bezels and interior
chrome trim are particularly nice with no pitting. All gauges and
backlights are working properly, as are the heater blower and
climate sliders. Restored Becker Europa stereo.
The 2.8 liter overhead cam, fuel-injected inline six is mated to a
four-speed automatic transmission. Exquisitely detailed under the
hood with re-plated fuel lines, new firewall pad, and more. The
engine was rebuilt during the Sueiras restoration. Recent service
within the last 1,000 miles has included all fluids, chassis lube,
tune up with electronic ignition conversion, valve adjustment, fuel
filter, water pump, heater core, heater blower, rebuilt climate
sliders, and a complete air conditioning system overhaul. This
280SL starts easily both hot and cold, and runs and drives
exceptionally well. The engine makes smooth power throughout the
rev range, and the chassis feels particularly composed. It's a
lovely car to drive, well sorted mechanically, and comfortable in
any climate thanks to working heat and ice-cold a/c.
Factory spare, jack, tools, original owner's manual, 2014 auction
catalog, and over $30,000 in recent service records are included
with the sale. For more information about this 1970 Mercedes-Benz
280SL for sale at Motorcar Studio in Savannah, please call
