This 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS Targa is powered by a 2.9-liter quad-cam
V-8 engine equipped with four Weber carburetors, electronic
ignition and a quad-exit exhaust, paired with a five-speed manual
transmission and limited-slip differential. Stopping is handled by
four-wheel disc brakes. It rides on 390mm Cromodora wheels.
Finished in Rosso Corsa over a Crema leather interior, the car
features pop-up headlights and a removable targa roof panel.
Interior appointments include a gated shifter, air conditioning and
power windows. Documentation, including letters from Ferrari
historian Marcel Massini and F-Register, identifies this car as one
of the first examples used in the "Magnum, P.I." pilot episode,
"Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii," and early Season 1 filming for the
CBS series, which aired from 1980 to 1988. Seat modifications were
made to accommodate "Magnum, P.I." actor Tom Selleck's 6-foot-4
frame, with adjustments for additional legroom.
