There are muscle cars, and then there are moments in American
history cast in steel. The 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle sits squarely in
that second category. With its tunneled rear window, coke bottle
hips, and menacing stance, the 1968 redesign marked a turning point
for Chevrolet's A body platform. It was the year the Chevelle grew
fangs, setting the stage for the SS396 legend and earning its place
as one of the most feared street machines of the era.
Under the hood lives a rebuilt 396 cubic inch big block V8 topped
with an Edelbrock 540 horsepower top end kit, aluminum heads, and
an Edelbrock aluminum intake. A Holley Sniper EFI system brings
modern precision to classic big block thunder, while stainless
steel long tube headers and a full stainless dual exhaust system
let it breathe like a proper street brawler. Power is routed
through a 4 speed manual, putting full control of that torque rich
punch exactly where it belongs, in your right hand.
This Chevelle has undergone a mechanical frame off restoration with
the work handled by Pro Touring Texas, and it shows in every
detail. The boxed, braced, and powdercoated frame provides a rock
solid foundation. A full SpeedTech suspension system with tubular
control arms, adjustable coilovers, and a quick ratio steering box
transforms the way this A body handles. Wilwood four wheel disc
brakes bring modern stopping authority, while an aluminum radiator
with dual electric fans keeps temperatures in check when the
pressure is on.
Finished in black over a black vinyl bench seat interior, this
coupe keeps the attitude pure and purposeful. A floor shifter rises
from the tunnel just like it should, and the dash now houses Dakota
Digital HDX gauges for crisp, modern readouts. An American Autowire
Classic Update wiring harness ensures reliability, while a Custom
Autosound radio blends vintage style with updated sound. Dakota
Digital LED taillights add a subtle contemporary touch out
back.
The result is an excellent driving restomod that captures the raw
charisma of a 1968 Chevelle and backs it up with serious modern
hardware. It has the look of a street fighter, the heart of a big
block bruiser, and the road manners to run with today's performance
machines. This is not just a muscle car. It is a fully sorted,
blacked out statement piece built to be driven hard and admired
long.
