Following the success of BMW’s New Class and E9 coupes, the company released a new model in 1976: the first 6 Series (chassis code E24). Sharing many parts and engines with the E12 5 Series released four years prior, the 6 Series rewarded buyers with a luxurious interior and remarkably sporty handling. The new model proved popular, and, in 1982, received a major facelift coinciding with the release of a new 5 Series (the E28). The result was a car featuring vastly improved handling and, of course, greater performance.
Not coincidentally, BMW had just completed the production run of their first supercar, the M1, and its first M version of a standard production car, the E12 M535i. Just as its 5 Series counterpart had done before, BMW used a de-tuned variant of that car’s M88 Inline-6 along with improved aerodynamics, heavy-duty brakes, and a specially tuned suspension to create the M635CSi (its name was shortened to M6 for the US and Japanese markets and received a version of the S38B motor producing 256hp for emissions compliance). In typical fashion, the M variants of the 6 Series are some of the most desirable, offering phenomenal performance (for its era) and a joyful driving experience.
The stunning 1987 BMW M6 Sunroof Coupe featured here is among one of the finest examples in the world and finished in the eye-catching factory color combination of Black over an impeccably kept Silver Grey leather interior. This particular example was sold new by Richmond BMW in Richmond, Virginia to a respected ophthalmologist who cared for the BMW until 2019. Today, this magnificent BMW presents in spectacular, original condition featuring original paint protected by full coverage PPF, interior, and its 1987 Michelin date-coded tires. Having only travelled 12,895 miles from new, this represents an incredible originality to own one of (if not the) finest BMW M6 to be found on the market today. We are exceptionally proud to offer this investment-grade M6 to the most astute collector, investor, or enthusiast who appreciates the performance of this iconic German sports coupe!
