1953 Nash 881 Convertible in Amelia Island, Florida

Vehicle Description

Chassis No. 2418
Engine No. NHA 1453
Body No. 12458

Before the likes of the Chevrolet Corvette, the Nash-Healey became the first American sports car, post-World War II, to captivate American buyers enamored with speed. While original 1951 examples were fabricated by Birmingham-based Panelcraft Sheet Metal, Carrozzeria Pinin Farina took charge of the Nash-Healey's styling from 1952 onward. The revised Nash-Healey featured a distinct new grille with Nash's now-signature inboard headlights, as well as more defined fender lines that ended in small fins at the Nash's tail. The Nash-Healey's Dual Jetfire inline-six-sourced from the Nash Ambassador-was enlarged to 252 cubic inches, now producing 140 horsepower thanks to twin Carter carburetors, and was fitted to a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

This Nash-Healey Convertible is one of just 162 examples produced in 1953 out of a total of just 506 cars built over the Nash-Healey's four-year run. It is finished in red with a black canvas soft top and side curtains over brown leather upholstery and matching wool carpeting. Red wheels with stainless-steel wire wheel covers and BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tires complete the Nash-Healey's stunning presentation. The car is also fitted with a day-night rearview mirror and period-correct AM radio.

A Broad Arrow specialist has inspected this Nash-Healey and confirms it as an excellent runner and in great condition-sporting nice chrome, a wonderfully restored banjo steering wheel, and still fitted with its original windshield glass. In the care of its current owner since June 2017, this 1953 Nash-Healey has traveled 83,050 total miles at cataloging and is offered with a period sales brochure, shop manual, and tech service manual.

With its excellent driving condition and striking Pinin Farina-crafted design, this 1953 Nash-Healey Convertible is not only a delight to look at but also to experience behind the wheel: an ideal candidate for the discerning enthusiast seeking sporting design and road-ready enjoyment.
