With such a variety of cars being put out in the 60's there is a
good chance you will stumble upon a classic you may have never seen
before. Well if your not familiar with the American Motors company
then this classic is something you've got to check out. Mustangs
and Camaros may get all the press but this cool 1968 AMX fully
lives up to the look of a muscle car. The car just has that tough
look that the phrase muscle car is all about. The wide open front
grill gives it a mean look cruising down the road and is framed by
the inset headlights. The large chrome front bumper has a great
shine as well as all of the rest of the trim. The car is coated in
Silver with thin Black racing stripes. It has an amazing shine and
was buffed out to a great finish. The car has great bodylines like
the accents you see around each side window. This is an all numbers
matching car with all of the right parts in there correct location.
The car is currently with its 3rd owner and was extremely well
cared for its entire life. From top to bottom it is very clean and
needs nothing. The car rides on 15" polished American Racing Torque
Thrust wheels and it has an awesome stance. The car also comes with
the original Mag wheels, original steering wheel, and original
valve covers.
In a car like this you want to have the original style motor. Well
roaring to life in this muscle car is a 390 Go Pack V8 that runs
extremely well. It is tuned out for a nice smooth idle and needs
nothing. It is done in the original style being painted a Turquoise
color but aftermarket chrome valve covers and air cleaner have been
added. Everything under the hood of this classic is painted and
finished off very well. All of the wiring and hoses are cleanly
mounted and routed nicely throughout the engine compartment. The
car has an awesome sound and roars through dual straight exhaust
into Chrysler square box tips. The engine was all gone through only
three years ago and is still in great condition. It has only been
3,200 miles since completed and runs extremely well. In true muscle
car style a 4 speed manual transmission is in place and shifts very
smoothly. The rear end is fitted with 3:23 gears which allow plenty
of room to take off quick while still being able to run down the
highway comfortably.
The interior of the car is done in an original style and is
extremely clean. It has the correct wood accents on the door panels
and all of the correct hardware. The only customization found in
here is the added 3 gauge pod mounted under the dash. The car has
the original American Motors am radio that still works like new. In
fact the entire electrical system is in great condition with all of
the gauges, dome lights, gauges lights, etc. operating with no
problems.
This is a smooth running classic that would make a great addition
to any collection. Think back and can you honestly remember the
last time you even saw one of these muscle cars? This isn't the
type of classic where you will pull up next to a matching one at
your local car show. The AMX was only produced for 2 years and is
actually the only short bodied steel cars of its time. It is very
unique and never fails to draw a crowd.
