The tri-five Chevrolets are iconic in the world of American
automotive history. These cars represent a major shift in style,
engineering and performance. They were so popular that 1.7 million
were created for the '55 model year alone. They all had
similarities but the 1956 in particular was notable for its updated
trim, full width grille and more refined styling. These cars will
forever be popular in the classic car community whether it be on
the local level or national shows dedicated to just these vehicles
alone. All tri-five Chevys are cool but not all are created equal.
This 1956 is a true "VC" V8 Bel Air but has been completely redone
and transformed into a pro touring custom you can take anywhere.
The body on it is in excellent condition and the beautiful two tone
Sunset pearl paint has no problem getting attention. One look and
it lets you know this is not just your standard stock '56. The
paint shines beautifully out in the sun and is accentuated further
by the classic 1956 chrome and trim which is all straight with zero
pitting or issues. This is the hardtop version which is often much
more desirable than the post cars. Being a hardtop it has the
roofline flapper trim that folds down to seal the windows when the
doors are closed and that is all working properly. The glass is all
tinted throughout and is in good condition. It has an awesome
stance and whether it is rolling down the road or sitting still you
can tell it means business. The custom 5 spoke Ridler wheels with
Toyo low profile tires (front - 245/40R18, rear - 245/40R20) tuck
under the fenders perfectly.
On the firewall is a very cool custom Hot Rod Identification plate
which outlines some aspects of the build. Also in that engine
compartment there now sits a nicely built 6.0L LS2 motor that looks
just as good as it runs. It has painted to match valve covers with
Bel Air emblems that sit to each side of the modern polished fuel
injection system. A serpentine belt system is in place to drive the
chrome alternator, polished AC compressor and the power steering
pump. The motor is rated around 400hp and sounds like it too
through the custom dual exhaust system into Magnaflow mufflers. It
has no problem running cool and even the cooling system is show
ready with an aftermarket aluminum radiator, dual electric fans and
a polished radiator support. 4 wheel disc brakes are in place and
are all power assisted with a chrome power brake booster with
proportioning valve. The transmission is 4L60E which incorporates
the 4th gear overdrive and smoothly transfers power back to the 10
bolt rear with 3:73 gears and a chrome differential cover.
The interior leaves no disappointments as it is just as beautifully
done as the rest with Tan leather and custom stitching throughout.
It is in great condition and with just a few thousand miles since
completed still looks brand new. The comfortable bucket seats
feature Brown lap belts and in between is a custom built center
console. On the console is additional storage, cupholders, and a
JVC EXAD DVD multimedia receiver with a 6.5in motorized LCD
monitor. Where the console feeds into the dash a lower dash section
was made to house the after market adjustable AC vents. Moving up
further you will note the entire dash itself is covered in leather
and then topped with aftermarket Billet trim that sits where the
old Black line trim would have been. The gauges use the original
location but now feature Classic Instrument speedometer, fuel,
temp, amp, and oil gauges in a very clean custom bezel. The
polished tilt column with column shift is proudly displayed in
front of the driver with a Lecarra leather wrapped steering wheel.
The builder was batting a thousand so you know they couldn't slack
off when it came to the trunk. It is all very nicely upholstered as
well with leather, custom mats, and a hidden compartment to
hideaway the relocated Optima battery.
From nose to tailfin this 1956 has been brought into the modern era
and whether it is around town or cross country should be able to
handle anything you throw at it. You better not shy away from
attention because it turns heads wherever it goes!
