South Jersey Classics is pleased to offer this iconic 1983
Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds 15th Anniversary Edition, registry documented
as car #1202 of just 3,001 produced and showing only 64,243
original miles. Built during the golden era of the G-Body
performance revival, this limited production model celebrated the
long-standing partnership between Oldsmobile and Hurst Performance
and remains one of the most recognizable and mechanically
interesting muscle cars of the early 1980s. This example retains a
clean Carfax, includes service records, and still carries its
original T-Top storage bags, reflecting a car that has been
carefully preserved throughout its life.
Finished in the unmistakable two-tone Black and Silver paint scheme
divided by the signature red and silver pinstripe, the car has
received one professional repaint that presents extremely well and
highlights the sharp body lines of the Cutlass platform. The power
bulge hood, rear decklid spoiler, and exclusive 15th Anniversary
Hurst/Olds badging define the exterior while chrome 15x7 Super
Stock wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich tires complete the correct
performance appearance. The removable T-Tops offer open air driving
and remain accompanied by their factory storage bags, and the
overall presentation captures the unique blend of luxury and
aggression that defined the Hurst/Olds models of this era.
Under the hood sits the VIN Code 9 307 cubic inch High Output V8
rated at 180 horsepower and 245 lb-ft of torque, paired to the
famed 200-4R four-speed automatic overdrive transmission operated
through the legendary Hurst Lightning Rod triple-stick shifter
system. This distinctive setup allows the driver to manually
control gear selection in a way no other production automatic of
the time could offer and remains the defining mechanical feature of
the car. Power is delivered to a 3.73 geared 10-bolt Positraction
rear axle providing lively acceleration, with period tests
recording approximately 0-60 mph in 9.1 seconds and the quarter
mile around 16.6 seconds at 83 mph. The chassis features
independent unequal length control arms with a large front sway bar
and a four link rear suspension with rear sway bar, while power
front disc and rear drum brakes provide confident stopping
performance. The car drives exactly how a well sorted Hurst/Olds
should, combining smooth cruising capability with a surprisingly
engaging driving experience when using the Lightning Rod
shifters.
Inside, the Dark Maple crushed velour bucket seat interior remains
inviting and very well preserved, complemented by a leather wrapped
sport steering wheel, power windows, air conditioning, and power
steering. The cabin reflects the upscale performance intent
Oldsmobile marketed at the time. A small hole is present on the
driver seat and the correct original replacement material has
already been sourced and is included with the vehicle. The interior
layout is pure early 1980s GM performance luxury and remains an
authentic time capsule presentation of the era.
As one of the most recognizable G-Body performance cars and a
direct descendant of the legendary late-1960s Hurst Olds models,
the 1983 15th Anniversary Edition stands apart thanks to its
limited production, distinctive styling, and unique mechanical
character. Documented registry car #1202, well equipped, nicely
preserved, and ready to enjoy, this is a rare opportunity to own a
memorable collaboration between Oldsmobile engineering and Hurst
innovation that continues to grow in appreciation among collectors.
Must see and drive to fully appreciate how special the Lightning
Rod experience truly is.
