South Jersey Classics is proud to present this exceptional 1981
Pontiac Trans Am survivor showing just 13,248 original miles since
new. Delivered new by Vic Cox Motors Inc. in Arlington, Washington
and assembled at the Van Nuys, California plant, this West Coast
car spent the vast majority of its life in Washington State under
single ownership until 2021. After the original owner passed away,
his widow famously traded the car to her dentist in exchange for
extensive dental work, a unique and well documented piece of its
history that accompanies the car along with numerous retained
yearly registrations. The Trans Am has now had only three careful
owners total and is accompanied by its original window sticker
showing an MSRP of $11,358.23, two original build sheets, dealer
literature, and a clean Carfax verifying actual mileage.
Finished in its factory Dark Brown Metallic exterior over Camel Tan
interior with factory Custom Velour bucket seats, this Trans Am
retains what is believed to be its original paint which presents
beautifully with excellent gloss, straight panels, and consistent
gaps. There is no rust, no bubbling, and no evidence of past body
repair, and the underside remains exceptionally solid having
benefited from early undercoating during its life in the Pacific
Northwest climate. The bumpers, trim, and weatherstripping remain
in impressive original condition and the car sits on correct
factory N89 Turbo Cast aluminum wheels wrapped in properly sized
tires. The trunk is clean and solid retaining its original mat,
jack, and rear speakers, further reinforcing how untouched this car
remains.
Inside, the Camel Tan Custom Velour interior is remarkably
preserved and immediately reflects the extremely low mileage. The
original seat upholstery shows virtually no wear, the dash remains
crack free, and the engine turned dash bezel presents like new. The
original digital cassette stereo remains in place and the dash was
never cut for aftermarket equipment. Door panels, carpet, package
tray, and trim pieces are all excellent, while the headliner was
professionally replaced and blends seamlessly with the preserved
interior. All gauges, lighting, wipers, horn, rear defroster,
clock, cigarette lighter, blower motor, power windows, and the
distinctive driver side front fender power antenna function as
intended. The interior remains odor free and still carries the
unmistakable feel of a preserved original car.
Power comes from the numbers matching 4.9L T/A 301 4 barrel V8
which remains in the car with the VIN present on the engine block.
The engine bay is highly original with factory hoses, clamps,
vacuum lines, decals, and markings still visible throughout. The
car starts easily, runs smoothly, and delivers a refined driving
experience noticeably tighter and quieter than typical higher mile
examples. Around four years ago approximately $3,800 was invested
in preventative servicing including fuel tank replacement and fuel
system service, carburetor, shocks, tires, fuel sending unit, fuel
pump, battery, spark plugs, transmission service, sway bar links,
and front brakes. The factory four wheel power disc brakes stop
straight and confidently while the original type exhaust produces a
correct mild tone.
This Trans Am is well equipped including the desirable WS6
performance package, limited slip rear differential, power
steering, cruise control, tilt steering wheel, rear defroster, lamp
group option, remote deck lid release, heavy duty alternator, rear
spoiler, custom interior package and factory four wheel disc
brakes. The handling and road manners are noticeably improved
thanks to the WS6 package and the car drives exactly how a properly
preserved low mileage example should.
Highly original survivor Trans Ams of this caliber rarely surface,
especially with documented history, original paperwork, matching
drivetrain and such well preserved cosmetics. Only original once,
this car stands as a true time capsule example of Pontiac
performance at the dawn of the 1980s and represents an increasingly
collectible and difficult to duplicate opportunity for the
enthusiast seeking authenticity over restoration.
